I've barely ever been out of Pennsylvania (I go to NJ a couple times a year, been to DE once, NY for a couple trips, GA once (but for the most time - a full two weeks), and MD for a few days.).

When I moved, it was... maybe 5-10 minutes away, and that's mostly due to it being a busy road...

I've only lived in two houses, both in the same town, let alone different states.

(excluding like dorm buildings and such, otherwise that would inflate the count I suppose

Well, how many different buildings have you lived in?

I'm really trying to avoid ever living in one of those - it's just ridiculously fucking expensive. Kinda limits my college options, but fortunately there are a few good ones close by...

I've moved something like 13 times. Having a dad in the USAF and constantly moving around during college to different apartments does that to a person.

I've moved 4 times between 3 buildings. However all of those were recent; I lived in the same house for ~21 years.

I became sick of living in that place so the moving was welcome by comparison.

I have never, ever moved in my entire life, so when I'm thinking about living at college the basic thing of it is that I have no reference other than third hand accounts on moving.

So naturally I pick living as far away from any family as possible versus living in-state. The several years of utter dependence on myself should do wonders.

School will be like a four year (or less) stint in the military. Except seeing family during breaks and last I checked San Francisco isn't a war zone.
