I already asked on IRC, but I figure it would be a good idea to duplicate it here..

Basically, I'd like you to tell me what you think or know about Czech people. That's it. Don't be afraid to be negative, and one-lines are expected.

Thanks!

Most of what I know comes from when I collected stamps and had ancient Czechoslovokian stamps.

That and that they're a part of that region of the world where the countries never stop sub-dividing.

I don't know much else, because they're practically never mentioned here in America. Go further in any direction and I can start naming some things, even if they're just horrible false stereotypes or stupid myths. But Czechs? All I know is mystery/spy films like to mention the location or use it as no one seems to know anything about it or the people there, over here.

I don't really know very much, actually - just that the country was once called Czechoslovakia.

(When did it become the Czech Republic, again?)

1. They used to live in a country called Czechoslovakia.

2. The country split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the 1990s.

3. At least part of Czechoslovakia was under control by Nazi Germany.

4. They're apparently mostly Atheist.

5. Their language has relatively complex gender usage compared to English.

As mentioned, Czech culture doesn't really exist in the United States, so we don't really know much about the people aside from the sort of things you'd find in a world history textbook. In fact, the only reason I know the last two things in that list is that I recall you talking about them before.

Czechs have good hockey and soccer teams. And people still slip up and call it Czechoslovakia every now and then.

I'll confess to this.

...Weirdly enough, mostly because I always found it easier to pronounce than "Czech Republic" for some reason. Please don't ask.

I dunno if it's easier to pronounce, but it's certainly more fun to pronounce, so that's got to count for something, right?

Some Germans call it "Tschechei", which is apparently a term coined by Hitler.

I guess.

"Czecho" is easier than "Czech" for me, though - probably because it just feels like something's supposed to come after it, but nothing does...

Hooray pronounciation quirks!

I find it interesting that "Czech Republic" is one of the few countries always referred to with its full name in English... I suppose something like "Czechia" just sounded too weird?

Oh yeah, I am always reminded that Czech Republic exists... whenever I watch the olympics.

Yeah, it's kind of sad. They taught us that it existed in third grade and that was it.

Alkjaladsgasdg

My mom is getting less and less sharp. I am basically forced to give her a link to the first two Rebuild of Evangelion films after explaining to her numerous times what I exactly want and her continuing to ask. Also apparently it's pronounced A-van-j-lion.

Also apparently a dub is called "The one with English people"

Also annoying because goddamn I'm trying to finish my project.

So why am I posting here?

I'm glad I never asked for any anime for birthdays/Christmas. I think it's harder to EXPLAIN the gift than it is to understand the content. (Especially in NGE's case.)

I've kind of learned not to expect much for Christmas anymore.

I did ask for some CDs this year, though, considering I've gotten pretty into music. Even if they're from the $1.99 section in the local store... well, that's where I get most of my stuff anyway, and it's all good.

I haven't asked for a whole lot for Christmas this year either. As far as I'm aware, the most expensive thing I asked for was a new mp3 player (since I have terrible luck with keeping ones that actually, like, stay not broken), and not even an iPod either. I asked for a couple of games, a CM Punk T-Shirt (which I think I'm getting. ;p), and a trip to my buddy's place (which I'm about to go on), but nothing much outside the realm of that.

I've told them repeatedly though, at least acknowledge my list. I had two Christmases where they didn't do that and...well, I didn't mean to come off as a spoiled asshole then, but I'd felt like they kinda disregarded what I asked for those years and was kinda bummed. :/

Same here. I really can't ask my in-laws for anything anime or video game related.

So hopefully me asking for a new air purifier will pay off.

However they did get me a Doctor Who shirt last year! I love that shirt.

I usually don't ask for anything specific on Christmas or birthdays, usually because I have no idea myself what I want.
