Sadly, our family was too poor to even have school lunches, so I had to bring pack lunches all the time.

There were only several instances where I basically said 'fuck that' and bought school food.

Iirc though I only did it once in elementary school because I was insanely anxious back then. High school I managed just fine.

And probably the one saving grace of my high school in the four years I've been there was the decent pizza and $2 for 2 tacos.

I forgot they even served tacos.

You people think Taco Bell tacos will toy with your stomach... oh boy. They didn't taste bad, but boy did my stomach certainly not appreciate them.

I remember when my school actually had a lot more variety of things to eat there too. They used to have a nice big thing of trail mix I would regularly dive into. It was always very good.

When I went back as a substitute teacher...they kept the entrees but now they have jack, even on the a la carte table. At least they still have nachos though. A saving grace.

Our high school actually had Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC food brought in. But that was before all the healthy reform stuff that got rid of soda machines and junk food from all the schools here.

My sister remembers that time too. Granted, our school's cafeteria food was halfway decent (though limited), but in her time the pizza they served was actually from Pizza Hut.

The trail mix thing sounds amazing.

As for the nachos... eh, my schools pretty much had the same nachos and beef. It was certainly edible, but you didn't really want it all that often.

And what the fuck your school had KFC food brought in, Orlandu? what. I'd have loved that.

Why exactly is that a bad thing though? I love pack lunches! You can make your own sandwiches, or have leftovers, fresh fruit, anything really.

And it's almost always better quality food than any tuck shop food.

Of course, I say that as the person who willingly subsisted on a banana and vegemite sandwich for lunch for most of his entire high school life.

I guess it depends on the quality of the lunch. Good meat plus quality bread = good.

It's a shame there's no microwave or anything in high schools, unlike colleges seem to have... Severely limiting.
