"Train of Thought" - a wonderful album by Dream Theater.

I usually listen to albums from first track to last. No downloading individual songs for me; whole albums or not at all!

I'm just listening to some microtonal music. Listening to this stuff is kind of mind-bending. It's incredible to imagine what music would have been like if we wrote our music in other tunings and not just the standard twelve-pitch one. Just imagine all the chord progressions and melodies that could have existed. All those harmonies lost in time like tears in the rain.

Can you imagine what music in alien civilizations must sound like? Music sounds right to us because we're conditioned to it. That's why we use only like four chords most of the time. Even culturally, we have stuff like Japanese pop music with all those modulations and seventh and ninth chords and to Westerners, that sounds "weird" or "different" because we're not raised from birth exposed to that stuff.

It's like the allegory of the cave.

I love you for that reference.

Meanwhile, I'm listening to a combination of Nightwish (WinAmp), Song of Storms (YouTube) and someone's top 10 Zelda songs, currently at #1, Gerudo Valley. Also YouTube.

Jonathan Coulton - Down Today.

Just got his latest album online, some of it's goofy, not serious, but mostly it's all really good music.

Kill Your Heroes - AWOLNATION

So this one is a bit of an odd case. It's not really the usual music I listen to, but I love it. I was first introduced to it through this music video a while back, but it didn't really stick with me. Then, I heard the song on an episode of Covert Affairs that happened to be on and it got stuck in my head. I couldn't help but buy it.

The Wind Waker Symphonic Movement from the 25th Zelda Anniversary Orchestra CD. The sailing music is amazing.

Nightwish - The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove.

The album comes out next week. I can't wait.

Nightwish - Slow, Love, Slow
The result when a symphonic metal band does jazz.
Silky smooth vocals, soft trumpet in the background, and a guitar solo that sounds like it was pulled out of the 70s.

Using my playlist on my iPhone for the first time in a while, currently playing:

Rob Thomas - This Is How A Heart Breaks

I like this song. Good tune and beat to it. Haven't listened to it in ages.
