A quasi-rusted 10-speed bicycle. All blue. Blue handlebars too.

We weren't even testing for that.

Let me guess, you're one of those fancy people who store their bicycles inside?

In Germany, it is usual for buildings to have a room in the basement devoted entirely to bicycles. Oftentimes, it even has its own exit with a ramp so you can push your bicycle in and out without trouble.

I have a very nice ride. White outside, black interior; not good for summer. Plenty of room and feels very comfortable to just sit in. A few years old, so plenty of miles on the clock. Needs a bit of repairing.

Size 11.

I haven't heard of that existing in the US- at home I just store my bike (which is a different one, but my brother has basically stolen it since I don't live there right now) in the garage for the car.

This is my car. It was my dads. Mazda 626 1999 LX, currently has ~105,000 miles on it. Only issues it has had are somewhat common problems like needing a filter change. For a year now the Check Engine light comes on at least once a month and stays on for a few days and whenever I get it checked out no codes come up in the history, so I've begun to ignore it.

Oh and it has a premium tank because it's the LX model, so if I don't put in 89 octane it chugs and acts funny

Oh god your poor wallet

I drive a 2010 Kia Rio after my bulky Isuzu got buttfucked in the most ridiculous of domino effects. No power windows or locks, which gets old fast, but it gets me from point A to B and it looks pretty good doing so. Gets pretty good millage too, from what I can tell.

The reason most of those "premium only" engines require the expensive fuel is because they tune the fuel injection system with it. And less octane makes enough of a difference to make it chug and run funny, like you said. Newer "premium only" cars have smarter computers that can retune themselves if lower fuel is used. They won't perform the same, but they won't chug.

So anyway, over the weekend we decided to check out the Chevy dealership. I was going in expecting to look at some Malibu's and was hoping they had a 2011 left because they had $3000 rebates on them. But they we're all out of the 2011s and the 2012s only had $1000 rebate. We still had some negative equity on our Hyundai so we needed a good rebate to make the deal happen.

Turns out they had a 2011 Impala left, white LT model with a really nice interior. We took it for the spin and I was thoroughly please with it. It's not a sporty car but it's an excellent sedan. Lots of space, more than our Sonata had. Wood panel interior, controls on the steering wheel, Bluetooth hands free built in, Onstar, satellite radio, the works. So we started talking numbers. This thing had a $4000 rebate that the salesman got bumped to $5000! And he worked out getting us another $500 more for our trade. After a few hours, everything was signed and sealed. We got a new car for the same price we we're paying on our old one! And a much nicer model with more amenities!

I'll have to get a picture of the interior. The only downside is it's a light color so it'll get dirty easier. And the floor mats are the same color. I'm thinking we should get some rubber ones to go in it and store these ones for whenever we trade or sell it.

My grandma used to have a car from 1984 that required premium fuel. I just assumed that it was an old car thing.

It seems that some gas stations don't even sell premium anymore, or at least they don't list the price for it.

This sounds exactly like my mother's Ion asking for an oil change and coolant every time it's started up - even right after adding some.

It really, really agitates her, for some reason.

Does it eventually stop reporting that? A lot of systems need to stabilize before they're provide accurate/usable readings. Not just in cars.

It never did until a couple of years ago, and it's been doing it without fail ever since.

I can't help but laugh a little at how angry it makes her, though.

I'm now riding some gnarly nursing home green Kia something-or-other. I don't know much about it other than it kicks my old truck's ass in gas mileage.

I know cars like I know my way around the Amazon Rainforest.

Ha, well going to work, doctors appointmens and such other daliy nonsense its me and the bus as my ride, anything else usually I walk to distances if I can reach it by foot and having google maps on my phone just in case I go the wrong way or dont know in exact location.
Yes I have a permit and yes I know how to drive, affording a new car with my current budget is very slim, but I am hopefull that I can own a used beetle if anything else I might not get.

I live in the middle of downtown, so I walk to work and pretty much everywhere. Since there is no real reliable place to part I currently don't have a car. If I need to get elsewhere I am on the bus line. However lately I've been thinking of changing that.

Haha, you found my ride, and me riding it too!
Just kidding, I have the same ride, I have no ride, I might in the future, but as far as I know, I probably won't get a ride since...I don't have a license

This, except a 4-door. 235k-ish kilometres on it, and still kicking. That is, when the alternator's not crapping out. Twice.

Dammit :|

Good to know I guess, certainly disproves my friends theory that it's all a corporate lie and that any fuel I put in should be fine.
