I have been absolutely loving the game, my only issues are graphical.

First, there's the jail bars screen effect that plagued Wind Waker and a couple other games like Super Mario Galaxy. They're more noticeable when using component cables, which sucks for me. It's apparently some way the games utilize their distance based special effects. For instance, Skyward Sword does this water drop styled effect over textures and whenever that screen effect is in use, you see faint bars going down the screen, very noticeable in dark areas and hard to notice in light areas. However, if you zoom in with C button (Look around button, essentially) that texture effect is turned off universally and the bars go away completely.

Second, Nintendo has forced widescreen yet again. I'm somewhat okay with this, but sometimes text is difficult to read even on my nice big 4:3 CRT running with component cables.

Third, there's incredibly awful color banding in low to medium light areas. This apparently existed in Wind Waker as well, but is much harder to spot because of the flat colors. It's really awful to look at, and it pops up all the damn time. Zooming in with the C button stops any and all color banding, making it obviously tied to that screen effect they use.

I figure that second and third are tied to the fact that most people don't even own SDTVs anymore, and since the majority of owners have LCDs, they most likely have awful contrast ratios. This means they can save power on high color with extreme color banding and nobody with an LCD will notice.

That sucks. Kinda like how I can't read half of the text in Disgaea 4 because of using a medium-size SDTV.

Are the jail bars those horizontal sketchy scan lines? I get those all over the place in Brawl and Megaman 9. I don't notice any color banding or anything of the sort when playing wind waker personally.

Also how's the AA? Is it as bad as Twilight Princess'?

They're vertical bars.

The AA isn't as bad as TP, that's for sure.

The motion controls in TP weren't that bad, but I didn't get very far in it (I don't really have the space to be doing the waggle)...

I don't know, this one hasn't really convinced me I need to do more than just pass it up, and the lack of classic "I don't want to deal with your stupid gimmicks" buttons just irritates me.

I've been playing the game for a number of hours, (We'll say "I'm at the third area you go to" -- almost all action games have areas, so I don't think it's spoilery to say there's at least three of them. :x ) and as a firm opponent of motion controls... Holy fuck this game is amazing, buy it the second it comes out, etc etc. It's the most intuitive use of motion controls on anything I've played, ever. Not once have I bitched and gone "fuck this I want buttons!" -- it actually feels like the motion controls were an informed, logical decision as opposed to a gimmick. Combat feels good, flight feels good, and feels good.

It isn't even waggle -- if you just blindly wave the wiimote around like a deranged chimpanzee, you'll get your ass handed to you by the first boss. You actually need to slash at certain angles for attacks to be effective. It's a great game. If you haven't played it and are turned off by motion controls, at the very least borrow it from someone else to give it a try. It's better than you're expecting, by leagues.

I think the Gamespot reviewer is motion control retarded, or just didn't really want to put the effort into the game and its review. There is more formula mix-up with this Zelda than any previous one. The sword controls are fantastic, and like Rahan, though not as vehemently against it, I too am tiring of motion controls because they seldom work right. This game works right. This is a case where the motion controls enhance the game so much more than a simple button press. Twilight Princess on Wii was dull with motion because it was just a button mapped to a waggle. Here, the swings are as close to 1:1 as we'll get. And it's just satisfying to swing the sword. I can think of a later boss fight where I would not have had nearly as much enjoyment had I been hitting a button to attack.

The worlds are vast, the ideas presented are clever, the dungeons are superb. And come on, it's Zelda. Give it a shot.

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement, but I'm honestly wondering --

And, to make me seem a little bit more balanced: I can think of two other games that made me happy with motion control. No More Heroes and Madworld, for different (although wholly satisfying) reasons.

First Zelda game in a long while that I'm not buying. Not because of the motion controls, but simply because I don't have and don't want to buy a Wii. I' be dropping three or four hundred bucks to play one game that I might not even like. TP turned me off of the idea of motion controlled anything, really.

Gah. My copy hasn't even shipped yet, so no day-early for me.

Which is really annoying, because I'm seeing spoiler tags and I want to read them so much.

But on the subject of the motion controls for TP, they didn't bother. I kinda liked it. Granted, there wasn't much else to do other than shake it from side to side, but I felt it was a step in the right direction. Plus, it worked exceptionally well for the bow and other similar items.

As for those bars on the screen... meh, I put up with it in Wind Waker. But I'm glad to know it's not my TV doing it, which is what my dad and I thought.

I'm probably about one or two hours away from the end of the game now. I'm just gonna say it. This is probably the best Zelda game of all time, hands down. Definitely the best I've ever played, and I've played all of them. I love Majora's Mask, but this just blows everything away.

Get the game. You will not regret it.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I'd probably get it if I had a Wii and didn't get bored of games as quickly as I do.

Also, a lot of LCDs will actually look pretty good if you turn off all the image enhancements and adjust the contrast and brightness to levels that aren't "surface of the sun". My 4 year old Sony LCD will show pretty much all colors as far as I can tell from some testing and general observation.

I may have played until about 4 this morning... and then nearly missed my first lesson...

Totally worth it!

I played a bit, got into the first dungeon.

So far... Not sure. Fighting's fun, but at times (like every fucking time I need the slingshot) I miss the days of non-motion controls.

Still better than Twilight Princess.

Finished it. Took me 30 hours. Easily the biggest game I've played, and the final boss was the best thing I've ever seen.

I also managed to sit down and play it for precisely 12 hours and 35 minutes. I lost the feeling in my legs and it was totally worth it.

Played up to the entrance of the first dungeon.

Either I'm getting old or Nintendo doesn't know how to do pacing anymore because I was bored. Genuinely bored. That was the dullest and least interesting slog in a Zelda game I've played for years.

I'm willing to give it a chance to pick up but I'm not currently very excited.

@Xenesis:

Twilight Princess did that to me. Skyward Sword had a better start than TP, IMO, but it did stretch out far too long. Link to the Past had quite a long time before the first real dungeon (Hyrule Castle, First Visit doesn't count IMO), but did a better job of it, and Majora's Mask did a good job of keeping the second First Day sequence interesting (the first one was a slog, too, but at least a shorter one).

But, uh... how the fuck do you kill big skulltulas?

Also, after certain incidents in the opening, I'm fully convinced that Zelda is out of her goddamn mind.
