...maybe if they made proper traditional pizza, you could argue. But this is kind of uh, striking.

Awesome, looks like they're finally getting their priorities in order. Pizza sauce was top of my list.

I could support this if the "pizza" served in schools was worth the cardboard it's printed on.

I used to eat at the cafeteria all the time.

I was the only kid who probably actually malnourished themselves. I would eat lunch consisting of a grilled cheese sandwich and nothing else.

They had fat bombs everywhere--I just picked that one thing and ate it. Over and over and over again.

Even if they made the pizza better, they have to have better rules about what people can buy. Otherwise some people can gorge on fruit and still wind up fat, while people like me as a kid had no idea of what nutrition was and randomly starved themselves due to a bizarre lack of appetite.

My high school actually had some decent pizza. While I certainly wouldn't buy it over much else I've had, it could actually count as pizza and not some atrocity.

They actually would make you sandwiches - customizable to any extent. I never tried too much of the hot food aside from pizza or turkey, though. (I never toyed much around with the sandwiches, either, though.)

...I wonder why other schools can't get any sort of decent meal plan together? I mean, seriously.

The pizza at my school was actually pretty good as a kid.

This actually doesn't surprise me, I've been saying Pizza Sauce is good for you, and if it wasn't, it would be one day.

Who's laughing now?

Homemade pizza sauce is basically tomato and herbs, so yeah it's great.

The problem is that processed pizza sauce it basically much fattier and salted to high heaven.

Our school's pizza wasn't that bad, because they just ordered it from Domino's.

And uh... tomatoes aren't even vegetables. They're fruits.

Yep, botanically they're fruit (as are many other things we call vegetables).

This. My school even had a rendition of stuffed crust pizza which they still make. I had a slice of it earlier in the year when I subbed and it was still as good as I remembered it.

I'm not surprised on this at all anyway though, as it just seems to be another thing to skirt the system and/or costs in schools.

Paulguy's Post configuration
High school pizza was OK. Mostly tasted like alright corner store pizza.

Elementary school pizza, however, was like a sponge, but instead of brillo on one side, it was a paper thin layer of sauce and rubbery cheese.

I hated elementary school pizza. It was that square of pizza crap, too.

...And they didn't even offer it with pepperoni - just the same "here's your square of pizza enjoy" thing. Ah well, at least it was only 40 cents... so you did get what you paid for in a way.

It would not shock me if that price jumped up hugely but the quality stayed the same.

$4 sponge pizza.

And yeah, I remember that pizza. Though granted, given the quality of all the other lunches, pizza was almost a step up.

Remember the awful green beans that were probably really old, swimming in butter? Sure it's a vegetable, but it's loaded with butter, and STILL tastes terrible.

About the only thing I can remember being much good from there was the turkey. I loved the stuff. Unfortunately, I remember that meal costing quite a bit more (about $2 or something, the usual for a school lunch. Of course, back then I think it was 1.60...)
