That's what I've been doing so far, climbing mountains looking for secrets, and falling down them :V

This really isn't a spoiler but it's highly recommended you get this ASAP as well as a horse to withold a ton of anger you will experience being over encumbered all the time. Either that or once you become a thane of Whiterun you can always store your crap on the companion you will get. But I would just get a house. Hell, if you really want to you can also decorate it without having your house look like your basement.
Yeah, but my problem is actually getting the 5k gold. I'm hovering around 1000 usually, and I lost mine a bit ago due to being arrested for killing someone for a quest.

I already got the 10k gold achievement. I'm absolutely ROLLING in gold half the time.
My best advice is to just go out to the world and find dragons. Dragon bones and dragon scales are valuable in bulk, and I've made a ton of money just pickpocketing off of random people. Even if it's only like 3 gold, it ALL adds up quickly.
Money is soooo abundant in this game.
If you really want a quick fix though, you can also befriend people, and I don't know if it's a glitch or some shit, but I can walk into a house and just take most stuff, because it's under a certain value limit. I've befriended nearly everyone in whiterun and they don't mind me stealing all their clothes so I can sell it to the general good guy.
He gets like 750 gold every 24 hours, so he's a great source of income if you have a lot of stuff.

I just killed a dragon and for some dumb reason I could not get the Dragon soul absorbed. Weird.

I like how I found a dragon literally 30 seconds south of the starting place in Ancients' Ascent, and holy damn it was hard even at level 15.
...come to think of it, a lot of this game seems hard so far. I've attempted several dungeons north and east of Whiterun, and the enemies in them all seem to eat me up. I really need to do some more training and/or get better items I think.

I had the same problem. The game is a lot tougher than Oblivion was, that's for sure.
I think I read somewhere that the game puts strong enemies at points you aren't supposed to be able to go for a while. To sort of force you to get stronger.
The main offender are those giant trolls :| I get the crap beaten out of me everytime I see one. Thank god for Dragon Shouts. At least now I can outrun the trolls and lead them back to nearby places for guards to beat the shit out of them.

I am -the- mage in all of skyrim right now. Every form of magic is being my bitch right now and I am loving it.
Dragons stand no chance against me. I have already brutally murdered about 20 of them now. And I am 100% weaker against magicka attacks.
WHAT GAME. WHATS UP. YOU WANT SOME MORE? YOU DONT WANT MORE!
E- Trick to killing dragons id your environment. Notice he is going to do a breath towords you? Take cover. No cover? You will be fucked. Stop standing in shit. Have a companion? Let her do the damage while you stand behind either healing her or doing ranged attacks. Melee only? Stay near his tail without being behind him and have at least SOMETHING in front of him to tank. Have no tank? Get one. Companions rule. Find one and use them.
My only companion died. She tried to high five a giant.
I tend to lead dragons to guards, and let them tank while I stab the dragon in the back with swords repeatedly because dual wielding is the shit.
Oh, and got my house. I sold all my dragon bones but I'll be damned if I'm going to give up my scales. I KNOW those are used for really cool armor. They gotta be. If I need bones for weapons or anything I'll get more later.
Damn dragon chunks are heavy though. Down to 120/355 from 412/355

Started cranking up my destruction skill. Fire hands and fire breath. Yes please. Also, I got the Dual Cast perk. Now I just need a reason to be crazy enough to not equip a shield to try it out.

So I got the idea to train my heavy armor and block skill on a level 3 NPC who was already hostile to me.
I sat there for a couple hours (or maybe it was shorter, I dunno) raising both my heavy armor and block from level like 40 to level 60. Each. On a level 3 NPC while I was casting restoration spells on myself. The whole process moved me from level 15 to level 21. I don't know if this was entirely smart since I was attacked by a stronger dragon than usual minutes after I left this training spot and got my ass kicked.
Not sure how the hell I will reasonably get better. Almost feels smarter to never level up.
Oh. And I still can't take giants. I wish I'd realize I will probably never be able to take on giants.
