IndustrialCraft jetpacks is the closest you're gonna get. Plus, if you're op you can just switch to creative with /gamemode.

Ah, so no zombe's mod.

Guess I'll have to whip out MCP again and merge the two. Zombe's Flymod/Sunmod are really useful.

Zombe's mods are untested with Technic MP, we're too busy learning that High Speed Rails cause client crashes if you derail a cart with enough force to cause an explosion, then attempt to pick up a redstone torch in the nearby area.

Also we're too busy building spaceships.

Is there a list of the planned mods for the next release?

Also what do you mean, busy building spaceships?

MP Mods off the top of my head:
Modloader/Modloader MP
Minecraft Forge API
IndustrialCraft2
Redpower 2 pr3
Buildcraft 2.2.3
Additional Buildcraft Pipes
Buildcraft<->IndustrialCraft2 Power Conversion Blocks
Xie's Farming
Minefactory Reloaded
Railcraft
Too Many Items
MAtmos
Optifine
Rei's Minimap
Convenient Inventory
Inventory Tweaks

The SinglePlayer version has all that plus:
Equivalent Exchange
Mo' Creatures
Millenaire
Somnia
Treecapacitor
Recipe Book
Crafting Book
Allocator/Fan
Zeppelin
Nature Overhaul

And this is what I mean by building spaceships:

I'm the 4th one. Redpower Panels are fucking amazing for detail, you should see the interior of the ship. Also, those lights on the wingtips blink like a real plane's do.

(Yes that's a gigantic volcano in the far distance)

This is so so true and it's a damn shame that Notch doesn't want to implement something similar. For single player it's alright, but if I want to get things like that on multiplayer I'd have to go through hoops just to get server admins to even consider thinking about it.

Edit: Also, too bad Zepplin doesn't work on multiplayer. Actually flying that ship would be amazing.

Yeah, the decorative blocks in RedPower are bloody amazing. The wiring system it gives you just leaves regular redstone in the "dust".

The new best seed ever is "_". Not even kidding (Just the underscore.) Managed to find an underground ravine that netted me about 17 slimeballs. Yes, slimeballs. There's also a Jebtown not too far from spawn. The stronghold is waaaaaaay past that, too.

I've got one of two ~ BIG SLIMES ~, the ravine it's in is naturally pretty huge. There are also diamonds none too far from where I found the slimes. After collecting the slimeballs I left the area dark so I can make another attempt at getting more. :3c

e: the surface really isn't all that interesting (save for a very small patch of swamp in the middle of a large body of water far west of spawn.)

Slimes can spawn in light areas, I believe.

Correct, they ignore light levels entirely. Best to keep things bright to prohibit normal spawns.

Which is actually working, made another run and collected 10 slimeballs total. The area they're spawning in could use a bit of clearing out :3c.

They're not too hard to find.

What I do is convert my old diamond mines into slime spawning areas. Dig down to bedrock (y=7 is what I like to use, if I want to convert the floor into something else later), dig two block wide tunnels two blocks apart in search of diamonds and other goodies. Do the same on a second floor as well. Then when you've got a sizable room, knock the walls and ceiling down, and you've got a slime arena. Light it up to prevent monster spawns as well.

Oh yeah, make sure to punch them as well. If you kill them with any amount of overkill damage, the big ones don't split into the small ones which drop the slimeballs.

TechnicMP is out!

TECHNIC MP v0.0.4

OMFG it's here! Finally a serviceable Technic game to play with your friends (sans Equivalent Exchange) We've got the latest Industrial Craft, BuildCraft, RedPower, Minefactory plus a new comer to the Technic world, RAILCRAFT which promises to 'fix' minecarts to how they should be. I hear there are potential problems with the highspeed rails when someone flies off the track and explodes so use caution with those, thanks. We also have all the delicious power crystals energy transfer mods, born out of Technic.
RedPower is getting very awesome but is still a work in progress, to a point to where RedPower 'World' and 'Machines' aren't complete, but the glimpses they provide into the potential future of this mod are pretty incredible. Keep this in mind.

A few notes:
----------------
With the new-fangled Ore Dictionary that is a part of Minecraft Forge now ores can be shared across mods. So, RedPower copper is the same as Industrial Craft copper as far as the mods go, meaning you can macerate RedPower copper and use Industrial Craft copper to make redwires. Because of this we've elected to disable the redundant ores in redpower, otherwise you get both spawning in your world and that's silly.

Some things are just generally buggy. IC2's sounds can get extra funky if 2 people have jetpacks within earshot, or the quantum suits can get fucked up if 2 people are wearing them close to each other.

Minefactory is set by default to use Buildcraft power. Meaning if you've used it before and used a timer, now you have to connect it to BC energy, either in the form of an engine directly connected to it or a power pipe connection.

Xie's farming mod works great, but the cooking mod is half-broken. The stoves, campfires and bonfires are all pretty much dead or really broken. You can't make any of the fancy pancakes or stir frys, but you can still make sandwiches and fry eggs in a normal (or Ic2 electrical) furnace.

We don't have an out-of-the-box Linux server yet, however this one will work. The problem comes from the fact that ModLoader gets it's load order from the OS, meaning on Windows you do it alphabetically. Slap some z's on a mod and it will load last. Linux uses creation date so the way around this is to merge all the mods from the 'mods' folder into the minecraft.jar itself. If you're pro enough to use Linux you're pro enough to figure it out before we get it!

You have a CLIENT and a SERVER download. The Client you should be familiar with, install it on a clean and fresh 1.8.1 Minecraft install, select your options and off you go. Note that the recipe books are single player only, they are there for you to jump in single player to see how you create things. Too Many Items is in as well, but if you aren't an OP on whatever server you join you just get an ugly inventory screen without the ability to spawn anything.
DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE DO A "FULL" INSTALL because you are supposed to pick ONE Optifine to install. If you're a baller you'll install the multi-threaded one. If you a chump you install the standard. If you're ironic as fuck you install the middle one. What you don't do is install all of them at once, because you'll break the client.

The SERVER doesn't have a fancy installer, instead you have a 'Jar' folder and a 'Server' folder. Put the files in the 'Jar' folder in your minecraft server.jar directly. DO NOT DELETE META-INF or you'll break the server.
The 'Server' folder is meant to have it's contents dumped in your minecraft server directory, sitting where your server.jar is.

Configs are already set to avoid any block ID problems so everything should be golden.

Come hang out! synirc #Technic to scream at us how broken things are. Or if you want to help convert all this shit to Bukkit so we can release Tekkit and run Lost Shard-style Technic SMP games.

Ha, I've been waiting for this, thanks!

Everyone else: I'll probably customize this a bit further before throwing up a server depending on the actual setup of the pack, so hang tight?

Be careful, Bukkit doesn't really play well with Technic. Customization might break things.

I'm meaning more any small mods which aren't in technic, plus zombe's mods. (Ropes+ comes to mind)

Speaking of which, I'll need to get the latest MCP for some of these.

Ah, i see. Regardless, be careful, they've been trying to make things stable for a while now and it seems to finally be that way. Changing more things may just be tricky. There's a list of free blockIDs somewhere but it's not the most recent one. If you run into BlockID issues, I can attempt to find it for you.

If I run into trouble, I'll keep that in mind.

It shouldn't be too hard though, I'm only going to add zombe's flymod/sunmod, and in fact the ONLY class with a merge conflict is sz.class, which is used for flymod (aka EntityPlayer.class).

Apart from that, a pair of IC² addons and Ropes+, and if it all works out then great!
