TASers do the same in Sonic 2. You can't do it in Sonic 1 or 3 cause of a speed cap, but yeah.

I don't think you can gain that much horizontal momentum jumping off of an upward slope in Sonic 2, however.

No but you can launch yourself through walls straight to the end in 20 seconds

The genesis games were terribly glitchy

I'd rather take broken physics that can make me go ridiculously fast through glitches, than broken physics that make the game a chore to play.

Yes, the Genesis games allowed for insane speeds... if you jumped on a slope going down. If you were to do this kind of jump in the classics, however, you would soar upwards and your horizontal momentum would take a cut instead, which makes sense.

Honestly, I'm trying to keep an open mind about the half of the game I care about, yet there's so many things that scream "disaster" to me.

Oh well, I suppose I could just go back to my dark, empty corner waiting for S4E2. =P

Actually, I liked Sonic 4 Episode 1; and sometimes I feel like the only person on the planet that liked it.

Seriously?

Sonic 4's physics are not perfect. Yes, the whole "stop on a dime when control stick is released" shtick isn't great. Yes, you can occasionally stop on a wall.

... wait, hold on, Generations has more problems than that, why the hell is it not getting any flak?

Basically, its imperfections are blown so far out of proportion... it's absurd.

Huh? Generations is the game where Sonic has roughly double the gravitational force that he should, not 4. If anything, he floated in the air for a bit too long after jumping, but that's a minor point.

And I found the soundtrack rather interesting save the iPhone's version of Casino Street 2, which is the most annoying repetitive thing in existence ever.

Generations has horribly flawed ring loss systems that make it nigh impossible to die to anything that isn't an instant kill. Basically, you can take up to three hits without picking up any rings before you're ACTUALLY left with none on hand, for whatever stupid reason. ~100 rings to 28, to 6, to (finally) 0. Of course, assuming you don't actually pick any up... which is difficult when the levels are flooded with them.

Generations also has that absolutely finicky glitch that speeds you up to absurd speeds, making time attack a question of "who can pull off the stupidly luck based glitch first".

And I'm not even bringing anything up relating to Modern Sonic.

Of course Inuyasha, you just played into metal man's trap card though. His point was that the game can't please you no matter how good it is, in which you have proven already by bitching about bugs in a beta version.

Mind you, I'm not saying the final product will be bug less, but the more bugs found in the beta version, the bigger the chance of them being fixed for the full release. In case you did not know, this is one of the major purposes of a beta version.

I highly doubt they'd fix any non-critical bugs two weeks before release. The last thing they need is to make a last minute change before going gold, accidentally break the entire game, and have to make a patch after tons of bad press that the game didn't work properly straight out of the box.

YMMV I guess, but from my experience with game designing is that it's at least better to try fixing what you can before release, even if that does mean new problems you have no way of knowing of show up, or a pushed back release date.

Although, I find the later will most likely not happen in this day and age.

It's not really about the product being bad or buggy, really, most games have these flaws from the get go. The problem here is that you don't want to like the game, for reasons I can't even understand, and you will look for anything to justify these feelings. I honestly can't take your opinion serious due to this.

It's better to release a working game with subpar physics than release a horribly broken, untested game with "fixed" physics.

The change won't be made before release if they keep the current release date.

Except, that was not what I was trying to say at all, then again, I guess it came out kinda bad, or be seen as such. :/

I guess I can sum it up with that I think he is being way too nitpicky over something that has yet to be released, and therefore the full quality level is in the unknown. And I can't really understand why he would be that way.

I mean, I'd have no problem with the opinion in general, but I'd say should at least judge the finished product when comparing it to another game that has been released.

I'm not saying people should not aim for it, I'm just saying (from what I have seen, mind you) that most games being released these days don't put in enough time to do so. And beta/demos will most likely always reflect this in some way and manner. Testing and fine tuning is usually at the end of development, so it should not really come of as odd that early releases have bugs that may or may not been known but have yet to be fixed due to time constrains.
