Oh yes. Tomorrow night, I'm going with my Ethics & Philosophy class down to the Gala Theatre to see, learn from and have a Q&A with Richard freakin' Dawkins! Last year, after my operation, my Ethics teacher gave me three of his DVD's to watch while I was off and I was completely hooked, especially on the stuff about the selfish gene.

I can't wait

In all honesty, I've never been a huge fan of him. He just seems...really condescending towards non-atheists, from what I've seen.

I don't have a problem with atheism itself, I just don't like militants of any stripe, and the whole "if you believe in God you're delusional" thing really pisses me off. :/

To be fair though, I don't know much about his non-atheist-diatribe stuff, so I guess that could be interesting.

Yeah, he seems to be quite the twat towards people outside his mindset. I do admit though, he can be a persuasive person. If you like him, that's great. I hope you have fun meeting him.

As an atheist, I can say he just needs to realize that calling people idiots is the quickest way NOT to get them on your side.

He is a massive jerkface.

That being said I find it cathartic in a somewhat 'now you know how it feels too' sort of way.

He's still a prick.

^This.

My thoughts on the matter: I personally believe that there's probably a higher power out there but also that I could easily be wrong and that it's impossible to know for certain, but I try to respect everyone's beliefs, and atheism is obviously included there. Just as long as people aren't pricks about what they believe--regardless of what that belief may be--I'm pretty much fine with it.

I agree with you guys. He's far too strong with it and he has no proof that there isn't a god, and I'm sure my Ethics class will question him on that.

Still, promises to be a good night. I'm probably not going to get home until about midnight

Good god, that was a great night. Dawkins was amazing, talking about his new book, The Magic of Reality. Couldn't afford it, unfortunately, but my Ethics teacher is going to let me borrow her book to read! He even has an app (which I don't think I can get) that features the book, and several games, like trying to put cannon-balls in orbit. I'm definitely going to get his books. Overall it was a fantastic night, but not why you think.

The girl I like was there and we spent so much time relatively alone and I, like an idiot, failed to ask her out, even though I was getting multiple perfect opportunities to do it. And then she walked away to go home and I, again like an idiot, didn't chase after her. I'd told one of my friends that I liked her and he knew everything that I was going through and then I just came out and told the rest of the group and the four of us just decided to drink (Note: drink, not get drunk).

They stopped to get some Bud and I walked on to see if maybe I could catch up to her and finally ask her out. Unfortunately, she wasn't there, so I stood at the bridge, staring at the water for a while, thinking of how stupid I was. Met my friends half-way back up to the shop. Turns out, the person buying it had been refused because she and the fourth helped carry it. So, further on, next shop. She went in to grab the stuff, and the rest of us 4 carried on walking for a bit so it wouldn't look like she was buying it. Blah blah blah, got Carling, went down by the river to drink it. This is when I realised just how amazing my friends are and how lucky I am. We were all totally open about absolutely everything (love, friends, sex, putting your life on the line for a friend) and it was honestly amazing. I have sincerely never felt so great in my entire life. And hopefully, we're doing it again tomorrow and Saturday

And maybe, after the week break, I'll finally ask her out. And the bonus is that my best friend actually thinks that she likes me too. I think I finally have a chance and I feel so great.

BTW, not even tipsy, and I had 3 cans. So don't expect a "hay i'm durnk" thread.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, gave a load of spare change to a homeless guy, felt great
