This reminds me of when I was on the school swim team.

Ok, I have a fear of high ceilings, but I also have a fear of deep pools. I hate looking at the bottom of a deep pool, especially if there are stains on the bottom.

Not because it's gross, but because it freaks me out for some reason. I used to be afraid of the black lines on the bottom of the pool. I got over it, but I still get freaked out when the line is on the bottom of a deep pool.

The highschool swim team swam in an indoor pool at our local aquatics and fitness center. It wasn't a cheapo shoddy pool or place, either, it was really nice, and relatively new, sorta. We always had to swim in the deep end, and I always hated it, because it was so deep, and the lines always freaked me out. I wasn't scared shitless or anything, it's just an irrational childhood fear of mine that stuck with me, and still is with me to this day.

Anyway, now that you know that, this is what the lines at the bottom of that pool looked like:

The pool was designed to be able to be swam vertically or horizontally, so there are double lines. the horizontal ones are blue, the vertical ones are black, the horizontal ones don't criss cross the black ones, they're broken up into lines.

We always swam horizontally during practice. Imagine that I'm swimming from the left side to the right side. This is what I'd end up seeing:

I usually didn't think anything of it, it was just really deep, so the lines themselves just kinda were freaky to me. My senior year in high school (I was on the swim team the whole time, so 3 years, this went unnoticed to me), I noticed that it kinda looked like a face with a smirk.

From then on, I was silently scared to DEATH of that "face". Sometimes, I'd be too tired to care, but man, if I was in a "freaked out" mood, I had to keep closing my eyes around that area at both ends of the pool.

I know it sounds silly, I have no idea why I'm scared of the bottom of a deep pool, but I am. The fact that the bottom of the pool had a "face" wasn't helping either.

Edit: This applies to the topic because it seemed that the pool was "making faces" at me.
