Recently I've been having small meals spaced throughout the day, the main ones being breakfast around 7AM, lunch at noon and dinner around five or six. In-between I have little snacking periods consisting of healthy snacks like nuts or fruit or sometimes yoghurt in small servings to keep the metabolism going and ward off cravings.
I enjoy food whenever, though, but there is seriously nothing better than being up before the sun when everything's still kinda chilly and making a nice Midwestern-style country breakfast, portion sizes included, potato, eggs and bacon and all. This is how I indulge on a comfort day.
But what's also nice is turning off all the lights at night and sitting in front of the TV with a blanket, my Apple iBook G4 resting on my coffee table, and a bowl of buttered and salted popcorn in my hands that I'm eating
Zooey Deschanel-style. Whether it's some art film by a foreign director I've recently become interested in or some crappy reality TV show I'm watching for irony, I always enjoy moments like this. But for something as shamelessly gluttonous as this, maybe indulgent "ironic" entertainment is the way to go. It kinda harkens back to the good old days, the times in the winter when all that's playing is Christmas specials so you watch them to laugh at them, but the nostalgia doesn't matter—it's all about the lovely ambiance.
