"Steven P. Jobs, the Apple Inc. chairman and co-founder who pioneered the personal computer industry and changed the way people think about technology, died Wednesday."

This is really breaking news (was just announced a few minutes ago), so if anybody has any additional sources they wanna post go ahead and add on to this.

I never really liked Jobs. Something about him always just rubbed off the wrong way. That said, he always did try his hardest, and he pushed himself until the very end. You have to respect that.

Holy fuck.

It's always weird to see a legend die. I hope his family is doing well.

He's one of those people, love or hate, you can't deny pushed the bounds of whatever he did. The tech industry would -not- be in the same place it is today without him

Damn... While I didn't exactly like him or Apple nowadays either, this really is a sad day. Rest in peace.

Wow... That's something I never thought would happen anytime soon.

I never really cared for him or his arrogant ways, but I'll still kinda miss him.

The computer industry owes a lot to the guy. He should be remembered for his accomplishments.

Sickening that people are saying shit like "good riddance, he never gave anything to charity" or "derp looks like prices are going to go up now"-- he was a person, too. Like Apple or not, we'd be in a technological hole without him.

From Pixar to Apple, From Toy Story to the iPhone. It was Steve Jobs that made it all happen, and for that I am internally grateful.

Rest in peace, and thanks for making the world a better place!

After seeing pictures of him recently...I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. He was a very sick man.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Yeah, I was shocked when I heard.

As for where the computer industry would be, it's hard to say. Personal computers I imagine would've been an eventual obvious progression. If he didn't do it, someone else would've. There were already kit computers people could get and assemble, and there were some digital video game systems for the home by then, so things were trending that way already. So things would be different, but there's no reason things couldn't be better if he wasn't involved.

Yeah, I looked up photos of him and found one of him from when he resigned. I almost didn't recognize him because of how frail he was. I had no idea he was that sick because people mostly post photos of when he was healthy.

The New York Times also published a very lengthy and satisfying obituary which is worth reading if you want to read more about this man, although there is probably significant overlap.

Anyway, I'm really shocked he died so young. Pancreatic cancer really sucks. I had a great uncle die of that, too.

He was a visionary and an innovator. He had hands in so many industries and technologies. It's a sad loss for everyone, family, friends, Apple, and the tech industry.

While I didn't care for his products, his vision indirectly helped make Microsoft stop sucking, so it is a great loss that he isn't around anymore.

I was surprised, as I had never seen a picture of him. Thought that my friend was joking when he first said it, but later found out that it was true. Did not have any real emotion response though

More of an "Oh wow, really?" then "moving on" sort of opinion.

Yeah, love or hate Apple, you have to admit the guy did a lot of things.

Of course, I'm still chortling over the "iDied" jokes and such.
