you know nothing of stoplights until you have seen LA traffic. seriously. It's bad enough that there's so many, but it really doesn't help that the concept of green meaning MOVE is foreign to just about everyone here.

Oh my God. Yeah, I didn't even bother applying to UCLA--all I could think of is being run down by crazy LA traffic.

Those caterpillar busses too. They'll kill you and keep on going!

Traffic slowly surges and then dies down, over and over and over again. Trying to go a short distance by car can actually be slower than biking in LA. It's insane.

Yes! Just the other day I actually saw a biker going much faster than me, and I passed him 10 minutes later. Like...that just shouldn't happen. Totally agree about the bus thing, too. They seem to enjoy merging in to your lane when you are directly parallel to them, essentially forcing you out or getting run over

Yes, I'm on a bus for almost three hours each day. Thankfully, it gives me tons of time to get my readings for my classes done so I'm pretty much always caught up. Too bad I have nothing to do on the bus.

I suppose it was nice to learn that a friend took exactly the same path as me, up to the bus stop between our homes, but otherwise it's the same, don't-recognise-anyone, always-be-bored ride every day.

Maybe it's payback for never leaving the house otherwise, thus piling all the travel time onto the school trek?

Takes about 15 minutes to reach the bus stop, then about 30 to 40 minutes on the bus. With waiting time included, my trip is an hour to seventy minutes long. Only thing that's relatively interesting is that we pass the bus garage for the region.

20.2 km drive to work which I don't take because I don't drive.

- Walk from my house to the bus stop. 1-2 minutes depending which bus I take.
- Bus to subway. Generally 10-12 minutes - I take different buses on different days because I leave earlier on Thursdays/Fridays.
- Subway takes around 7-10 minutes to get to a transfer station - I switch lines from there and then get to my final stop in around 22-24 minutes.
- 3-4 minute walk from subway to work.

I'd say, depending on how good the connections are... 50 minutes to an hour.

Every day is a 20 minute or a 1 hour commute.

20 minutes if the bus actually shows up and traffic is good.

1 hour if two buses in a row just don't show up and the traffic is horrible. I've had more of the latter in the past month.

Yeah, I'm aware. I was more interested in choosing a route that was impossible to fuck up at first, to cut back on the possibility of being late to an interview or my work days.

The route I took basically worked like this:

1. Turn onto Major
2. Turn onto Van Wagnen
3. Turn onto Lake Mead Drive
4. Enter I-215 (west; LMD turns into it if you go straight)
5. Get off at Green Valley Parkway
6. Drive straight for about 15 stoplights until reaching work

The new route is a bit different. Steps 1 to 3 are the same, but...
4. Enter I-515 (north; going right at the split on LMD leads here)
5. Exit at Russel
6. Turn left onto Russel
7. Continue for a while, turn left on Mountain Vista
8. Continue for a while longer, turn right at Ramrod
9. Drive for a while until work

It's a bit more complex, so I wanted to wait until I had time to try the route... Which was good, since apparently I managed to get all of the turns except the last one completely wrong. Even with those errors I still made it to work on time, though.

10 minute walk to college, 10 minute walk back That's pretty much it for me. Most of the places I go to are in walking distance.

I really don't have that much in my way when I ride my bike to work. I have to deal with cars that do not know how to give bike riders the right of way and the massive amount of lizards that like to cross right in front of me.

After moving, I walk to work in about half an hour. Nothing too interesting, but there's a nice view of the mountain from the 5-minute mark.

I walk to and from work, weather permitting*. Half an hour, 2.4 miles.

Good exercise, good way to wake up before my shift starts.

The exercise is good, since I frequently take a side trip to pick up lunch at Fast Food Alley on the way, adding about another mile and another half hour to total travel time (a fair portion of which is just from sitting to eat, of course).

That's the one thing I like about this town. I can walk everywhere.

* Temperatures below 70, rain lighter than a downpour. Snow permissible.

I usually walk to work and get a ride from it. The trip is rather boring, nothing interesting happens along the way. Usually there's no other people out either, but it is becoming very cold here anyway.

The drive to my two jobs are negligible, but come winter, it'll be a nice 20/45 minute hike to work. Ugh.

6~ minutes to work (four times a week), and 5~ minutes to school (twice a week) — via car.

I'm told that I'm going to end up having to bike to and fro if I don't manage to get a car of my own anytime soon.
