I found a relatively lag-free server today (29 ping, woohoo!) only to join and see people going prone and clipping through the ground.

Modern warfare of the future, clearly. Can't wait until they invent molecular transportation like that.

Looks like it's Open Beta now. I'm downloading it on my PC and PS3 right now. Wife is watching TV so I'll have to try it on PC first.

This is upending the whole "consoles get more content" thing for once. The PC version of BF3 is definitely more polished than the console versions and is supposed to be that way. Thus far, bugs aside, this is going to be one massively awesome game once the Call of Duty kiddies are all excised.

I've played for a couple hours and the main problem is the Call of Duty-esque mentality of most of the other players who just don't seem to understand that Battlefield is about tactics and teamwork (and yes -- you're SUPPOSED to camp; this is Rush mode, that's how you provide cover so that the rest of the team can advance) rather than just running and gunning. That and the fact that I've only made it through one whole round without the game client or server crashing, or getting a mysterious message about timing out when not enough time had passed for me to time out in the first place.

DICE is unfortunately not getting very good feedback, though.

I got to play it on my PC for 2 rounds last night. I really liked the graphics and controls. I had gotten so used to MW2 on PS3 that it actually took half a match to be able to coordinate mouse and keyboard movement again. But the camera style just really got to me. It was like the blurry cams that everyone complains about in movies. It was hard to see enemies even relatively near when I was moving. I know this makes it more realistic but this is a game and it makes it harder to play the game.

I'll have to try it out on PS3 tonight.

Downloaded the 360 version of the Beta early in the morning. I was a bit unlucky to encounter the "Connection to EA Server Lost" error, but when it works with a good team, it's hard to put down.

I'm wondering how I got a red dot sight unlocked on one of my first Support class weapon in the game though.

Yeah, I'm so used to the Red Dot sight in MW2 that looking through a standard sight actually impedes my aiming. And moving around is so different with mouse/keyboard vs controller that it took me a while to even shoot straight.

With any luck you'll be able to disable that shit later. The motion blur/bloom/other bullshit in Bad Company 2 continues to give me a headache if I play it for more than 30 minutes.

But it is realistic man!

Except people are complaining about the bushes being realistic because people can hide in them. No way, really?

Every time I want to maybe buy BF3 I remember that it requires Origin (and Windows 7) and the horrible terrible stuff Origin does.

...

I should save up and buy a bigger hard drive

The apparent awesomesauce that this game is on PC is almost making me want to buy a new laptop... Which is really sad, because this one's only... a year and a half old or so and can't play UT3...

Beat the game in less than a week. I thought it would be better but oh well.

99% of Battlefield is the multiplayer. The single player is mostly just a tutorial.

I've been told.

However with Battlefield Bad Company, the story wasn't that bad and not as broken as Battlefield 3.

I'm sorry, but if I am taking cover, the object that I am hiding behind should not vanish when I take one step forward.
