I always thought autistic people made excellent programmers. I'm just glad I wasn't the only one who thought so.

I believe there is a similar company in Europe, but this is, as far as I know, one of the first companies in America that has been successful, if not the first.

This gives autistics a place to work (and many companies never want to hire autistics) and allows them to develop skills that will help them down the road. Good to see someone trying to help autistics rather than just giving them the finger.

My dad's on the autism spectrum, and he's a genius programmer...it makes a lot of sense, really.

It's definitely great that they're giving people with autism a place to work.

What I learned that really sucks is that the more severely autistic peeps who graduate high school can only receive life training skills in their school district until they turn 20. Or maybe the day before turning 21, I'm not sure.

So those who are more severely affected are screwed if they are unable to learn how to function in real life in that time.

Also it doesn't surprise me some people out there are being jerks about this.

Things like this are why a meritocracy makes more sense than something based off of 'status'; the best people at a certain task may in fact be the same people society derides as not being "normal." Of course! The best people for specific tasks like that are not normal. They have skills beyond normal people in those tasks, and lower ones in other skills. Those abilities should be used, not ignored.

After all, it gives those people jobs and a purpose in life.
