Unless you go insanely overboard with that (and we're talking 2008-2009 SMWC here) I only think you'll ever have to worry about irritating the hell out of people.

The concept of memes isn't inherently bad (just look at batter blaster, and I'm sure Jul has its own set of others) but when they've run their course people just don't let them die and that's what makes them horrible.

I think that's honestly my biggest issue - people just don't know when enough is enough.

Pretty much this. Referencing a meme at the right time can make it even funny, the problem with them (or anything) is when then everyone follows and keeps making the same tired joke all over the place for the sake of hurrr.

See, even when I hate a place, I don't get banned--I just skirt the edges of what is allowed in a way to troll the people I hate, in that case.

Spent a while aggravating some annoying Australian people on one forum that way. It was amusing when one of them broke down and thought I was mentally damaged because I didn't believe in their hippie BS. I mean, everyone has beliefs, but these people? If you aren't some down to earth pacifist egalitarian smiley face, you're apparently a mentally ill maniac out to destroy everyone.
