Hey all, just joined this site and making my first post AND contribution

I decided to go through a translated ROM of Mad City and I recorded the Good, Kansai-Ban, and Bad Endings and are being uploaded yo Youtube as we speak. I don't really know how to link videos on this website, so I figured why not just link them here:

Bad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7fmcR7o2Hc

Kansai-Ban:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOrbPZyeaXY

Good:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO6KRR2v5ik

I apologize if the sound might be a little off as I experimented with a few desktop recorder tools and couldn't find a way for it to record sound without the use of a microphone. Feel free to add these to your site

Depending on the console you're recording for (NES, SNES, etc) most emulators have an AVI-dumping feature built in, which records flawless video/audio normally.

Yeah I saw something like that on the Emulator I was using (VirtuaNES) and it was in a different format (vmw). There's probably a way to put it into AVI, but figured a Desktop Recorder would be the better route for now

Try not FCEUX, because it has got a shitty framerate.

I haven't had a problem with it to be quite honest, even on this crappy laptop. Same with the AVIs.

for FCEUX as well.

I'll give FCEUX a shot. I originally went with VirtuaNES cause it has frameskip and I liked the overall interface of it more but if I find the time, I'll try it out

I'm pretty sure FCEUX works fine for most people, otherwise it wouldn't be so popular. Its Vsync code is screwy and doesn't work well on either of my systems (would that explain your framerate issues?), but if I leave it off everything's fine.

Nestopia is great and all, but a) it has no debugger and b) it has more input lag than FCEUX, especially in fullscreen mode (people have tried to fix this, with disastrous results).

I've started to play Mad City again using FCEUX and tested with the recording as well as figured out frameskip features. As long as no issues arise I'll probably re upload the vids using FCEUX.

Nestopia works fine for me, especially on fullscreen, but FCEUX not.
However, the GBA-Port of MegaMan 2 has got the same issues...
I tested FCEUX on MegaMan 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3 (the framerate of SMB3 is a bit better than the framerate of MM2).

Well, I tried the recording features on FCEUX and I have to say while I'm impressed at the options it provides, my computer is unfortunately not good enough to keep the frame rates consistent I'm thinking I'll stay with my current recording methods until I get a newer computer on of these days.

Record an input movie (FM2). WHen you're done recording, stop the movie and pause the emulator (usually the literal Pause button on a keyboard).

Choose the AVI recording option and set your options. After that is done, load your FM2 and let it play back.

You'll see the movie play back just as it was recorded (FM2 records your keystrokes, not the video) and the video will be dumped. Depending on your computer it may be fairly slow and choppy while doing this, but once it's done (remember to stop the recording when it has finished playing) playing the actual AVI back will be flawless 60fps goodness.

(instructions)

Failing all that, you could probably upload the fm2s somewhere and just post a link so we could record it, if your computer totally freaks out at the thought.

Pretty helpful suggestions here... I'll be sure to try them out next time I do some more recording. Thanks folks
