I think BMF brings up some very valid points.

And while I agree that Nintendo don't really owe early adopters anything, it was themselve that did buy it early, I still feel that if they want to compensate for the weak liberary they would provide some games that would really flip you over.

While SMB is a classic, I think everyone can agree that SMB3 is a better game, and it would honestly not cost them anything to release that. In fact, we are talking nintendo emulating their own games on their new hardware, as long as it's games they own licenese for it won't really cost them any extra, since frankly, they will most likely sell these games later. (I don't care what they said about the GBA ones, I'm sure now that they have an emulator they will start selling them.)

The NES selection provided is not a terrible one by any means, but I'm sure they could do better.

Aren't they releasing SMB3:GBA as one of the free GBA titles?

Actually, it's the GBA version of Yoshi's Island (SMA3). (The one with the six new levels.) I don't blame you for getting them mixed up, though. The Super Mario Advance series gets pretty confusing with the ordering/numbering. (Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3!)

So that is a Capcom thing then? As certain other sites are reporting it as a Nintendo thing...

In any case, er, I hope that doesn't catch on as a requirement.

I do. I'm a greedy bastard who doesn't own the system for various reasons, and having a second control slider/stick added to the inevitable hardware revision would (imo) be ultimately beneficial to the system.

The fact that they didn't add it is kind of silly. Then again, so was releasing a handheld that didn't even have a working online store at launch and whose gimmick is something that was clearly overhyped in other forms of media.

A nice big re-branding with a more attractive system would be nice.

I've been told dual analog sticks are a necessity in console first-person shooters, but that is a genre I could not possibly care less about. Other than that though, what is the benefit?

We all know that there's going to be a hardware revision at some point anyway.

Soooo not a Capcom thing, I'm thinking.

So basically the next revision of the system will look all spiffy while the early adopters are going to need to attach that monstrosity.

Understood.

I doubt they'd work it into a revision of the system. They wouldn't have released it with the current design if they planned on adding more buttons to it. For all we know, this could be a product to satisfy some big game developers who demand more buttons for their games (and left-handed people?). I doubt you'll see any main Nintendo titles that actually use it. I imagine a number of third-party console ports will require it, though.

I personally don't want my 3DS to have two circle pads and four trigger buttons.

yeah, I hope that doesn't become a necessity. I don't mind big bulky electronics (I brought my game gear to school a couple times when they had my DS.), but this is big and bulky in a bad way. Also, good job nintendo by not having a hardware expansion port. From what I hear, this thing needs it's own batteries, so I imagine it uses the IR port.

An add-on of this sort using infrared? That can't be good for latency, if only due to processing and what-not.

I want to punch whoever thought this was a good addon in the face.

I can understand designing a good game using this few buttons is hard, and mapping the camera to a stick would be really handy. But it's hardly needed to make a good game. And looking on the market today, it does not seem that people are capable to making good camera even with a control stick for it.

Also, the 3DS is perfect size for being portable, that clunky thing is not. A huge reason why I like portable is that it is, you know, portable! :specialed:

Now if only we could just plug the entire console into the top of a Sega Genesis 32X CD, for maximum resolution graphics!

Doesn't necessarily have to be. The IR port device could probably fire interrupts, so it shouldn't have to cause much latency, unless maybe every pulse is an interrupt, but that'd be pretty primitive for a modern device.

So, Nintendo had a 3DS event today (last night for those of us outside Japan). They also showed off Wii games as well, but the 3DS games were the main feature. Beautiful new footage was shown of each of the games we already know about, plus new announcements. Some highlights:

-Four Swords as a free download (DSi/3DS) will have a new singleplayer mode AND new levels based on other 2D Zelda games (with graphics to match!)
-Skyward Sword is said to have 50-100 hours of gameplay, one of Nintendo's biggest projects. Apparently, it will have a second playthrough and boss challenge modes!
-Super Mario 3D Land footage showed Bowser... with a Racoon Tail! Also, the box art was revealed
-Paper Mario keeps looking better and better
-Lakitu is a playable racer in Mario Kart 7!
-Mario Tennis 3D!
-Fire Emblem 3D!
-A Gundam game and a Miku game
-Three companies (Production IG, Studio 4C, and Shaft) are each making promo videos anime episodes for Kid Icarus!
-Monster Hunter 3G, as well as Monster Hunter 4
-A 3DS update in november wil add 3D Video Recording functionality to your 3DS!
-new Mii Plaza stuff as well

Fix'd.

Also, Four Swords was multiplayer before, nothing new there. What was interested was the new old themed level AND the single player mode for it.
