I just came here to Jul on the school computers after not using the school computers for two months only to find out I was have been logged in since June...

I sure am glad that nobody used this computer to spam with my account.

Get off the computer, you hoodlum!

Anyway, in all seriousness, that would really suck. I'm actually surprised the librarian didn't turn off the computers. That was a waste of electricity.

The cookies don't go away when closing the browser or shutting down unless that setting is turned on. Its a good thing to have set on public computers, so maybe suggest it to whoever administrates them. But this was original reason for "private browsing" tabs that don't store cookies long term. Now it's synonymous with other activities...

You can thank cookies for that.

Or he could always get a thumb drive and run his own off that? Then again he'd need to also find a mobile version of his favourite browser.. Else it'd still run off the computer's Temp Internet Files..

I myself am aware of these. But I took an awesome step forward and ran off a live-disc so I had Linux instead of Windows, too.

I wonder if this would be an effective way of job hunting on a public campus computer without all the nasty side effects.

This is exactly why I never use school computers for anything.

I browse and save passwords at work, but the station is locked to me. I don't ever leave my desk without locking it first.

Our school computers use individual accounts, so I think even if I stayed logged in it would be alright as long as no one else had my password...

But I don't use school computers to browse the board anyway.

Even when we had working Internet (without me having to use Google Mobile trickery to get online) at work, I never logged into Jul. I'd view it but... yeah... not gonna take a chance. Even though we use profiles at work, it's still KINDA public.

Same at the college here. It's nice, everything is saved under your profile, so you can change all the settings you want, and not only will it not refuse, but they'll stay that way when you log into another machine later.

Except the background, for some reason. That can be worked around though.

My college machines just only save files. Can't change settings, either.

It's worse with the advent of 7. Forced crappy Basic scheme? No thanks, I'll use my own machine instead. At least on XP they used a halfway decent theme (Luna Silver)...

Did I mention 7 runs like ass compared on these, too?

I did boot a live USB Linux at my high school... though that's another story entirely.
