I know requests like this have been done but usually aren't presented too well... so I'll make this brief.

I'm "hacking" Moon: Remix RPG Adventure for PSX, a Japanese game. I've so far found lots of stuff, tons of unused graphics, a few unused areas, a "debug area" (if you wanna call it, one of those like in FF7 where you talk to characters to go to different areas), and lots of unused text. But I'm only doing this within my limits, that is, finding the value with the PSX Cheat plugin that stores the area value, or using the PSX VRAM to look into vram.

I think I've exhausted all the numbers for levels, but there's still a lot of stuff in the unused areas that leave questions(tons of stuff loaded into VRAM that appear to be for more cut scenes, or characters that appear nowhere else), but I can't really do anything more than I've said. So I wonder if there's any PSX hackers that can help out? Of course, I'm betting anyone that could help would probably be very unfamilar with the game so that might make things more difficult...

In the meantime I'll post my findings on the wiki, and since the games producer has a Twitter I'm planning to get some more insight on what I found, if he's willing to indulge me If asking for help isn't taken too kindly around here...please don't shoot :x

Nothing yet, if anyone can help I suppose I have to offer something in return :x Well, I've done some translations for romhacking.net under the name SteveMartin. If anyone can help me then I'll be indebted to you, so if you have anything from some lines to whole game you wanted translated from Japanese or Chinese, I'll do it.

Dunno if that helps heh. I found some unused items I couldn't figure out how to get finally last night, but still am stuck on finding some other things.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Well, what you might find useful is if you can explore the filesytem on the disc, though I don't know if PS1 games use a standard CD filesystem like iso9660. It might even depend on the game. Might be able to even pop the image in a hex editor if there is no viewer for the way the data is organized, and figure it out so you can locate individual files.

I've already explored the files to my best ability, which isn't much. This is one of those games that doesn't have a whole tree, it's only four files: MOON.DA(I think this stores most of the games graphics), MOON.DAT(game's text uncompressed, all sound effects and voices, some dream sequence graphics and TIM files), MOON.STR(all of the games music) and SLPS_010.31(all games have one of these I guess =p).

Tile Molester can't view anything in MOON.DA, though I think at 1bpp you can faintly make out individual character pieces. Probably compressed? And I have zero idea on how people figure out how to view things like this. PSicture is the only program i can find that isn't exclusively to find TIM files, and it finds nothing on the disc. So yeah...I'm pretty much hopeless on my own at the moment for finding anything else on here.

I have to wonder how you're getting the files out of the disk; mode 2 mixed-form data is kind of annoying to work with.

Oh, and about the graphics: have you tried switching Tile Molester into 2-dimensional mode? That's how most games from the PS1 store graphics data. (View → Mode → 2-Dimensional)

Files out of the disc? I've extracted nothing from MOON.DA since I think it's all graphics and I have no idea how to decompress them and extract them. All the stuff on MOON.DAT, well the text you can just view through notepad, and the sound effects I just used PSound, and other graphics I used Tile molester(this only shows just a few things) and any other general TIM program to see the TIM files. So as you can see, I haven't really done anything technical to get what I have so far :x

Yeah I've tried Tile Molester, each separate mode, each at 1 or 2 dimensions. Seems anything that does display does indeed use 2 dimensions, but that's still not much. Just some dream sequence backgrounds appear in MOON.DAT, plus the record covers. I looked at MOON.DA in a hex editor and it looks like there's a pattern going on for compression. But I know nothing at all for figuring any of that out. At the moment I'm trying a corrupter program to mess with savestates, but that's not making too much progress.

I imagine the only way anyone will probably care more about this game is if it were translated to English, but no one's done that yet. If anyone ever did though I'll definitely be there to translate, and to bug them about finding all the unused stuff =p
