That's.. unfortunate. He put everything he had into getting his party a historic victory, and it ends up killing him.

Damn, He was a nice guy. He probably would have won the election if he was with another party. it's a pity that a such a good leader is dead.

I dunno if I'd go that far. He already had prostate cancer which he was battling quite well by all reports; however, it's quite possible that it could have spread somewhere else. I think one of the other problems is that if you're feeling tired while you're campaigning, you're chalking it up to being on the road all the time; and Layton certainly had a lot of energy while on the campaign trail.

The one thing about Layton is that he was always an optimist. Last month when he announced the cancer was back... well, he looked awful. There's no other way to put it. But he had said he hoped to be back in September, and if anyone was going to do that... it was him.

Awful loss for Canada and for Canadian politics. You might not have liked his policies or his views, but he was one of those rare politicians who believed everything he said and didn't try to pretend to be something he wasn't.

It is unfortunate that he died. He could have changed things. Now unfortunately his wildly disparate caucus will probably evaporate into the mists of time.

Yeah, I agree with this completely. I thought he was a bit off his rocker with his ideas but he was passionate which I find is lost with most politicians.
