I'd be pretty surprised to see them do it this way, honestly.

They have said free in the previous releases. So, no real worries.

Nintendo wouldn't sell a game to a small select group of people. :\ They might make some REALLY questionable decisions in regards to digital distribution, but they're not that dumb.

So, i've been using my 3DS to replay TWEWY again. I forgot how awesome that character was.

(Three guesses, the first two don't count. My layout makes this easy! )

Yoshi, as in, the cookie machine game?

Not sure how much I'm into these games, I have played zelda 1 and 2 recently already, and I already own several portable version of metroid. I guess I can try the games I have never played before.

Oh well, I was never a big fan of NES games anyway, I wonder when the GBA games will be done.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Still seems like a kind of weak selection of games. Sure they're free, but it was to make up for having to spend so much on the system. I personally would've wanted 3 or 5 good games instead of 10 kind of OK games or games I've played a lot/have copies of. Would've been good if they popped out some sort of "rare" games.

Anyone else looking forward to Mario Kart 7? I certainly am... it'd be interesting to play Mario Kart in 3D, no glasses required ;P

Surprisingly, yes. I always liked the original and the GBA game (never had the N64 one) but while I own double dash I don't have that many to play it with. And when I tried mario kart DS I was not very impressed, then again, I'm so used to the gameplay in super circuit and this whole snaking thing and larger focus on drifting did not really catch me fancy.

I never really got a chance to try the wii version either, so it's going to be nice to have a new mario kart to play, and hopefully, some people to play with.

Am I the only one who likes this selection of games? Z1&2, Yoshi, Wrecking Crew, NES Open... the rest aren't too bad either, but I've been loving half of them. (Fun fact: I haven't played half of them before, either... those aren't mutually exclusive with the ones I love, obviously.)

I'm really happy with the selection as well. Even if they're not the cream of the NES crop, they're all still solid games. We're talking the foundations of three of their greatest series here! I downloaded all but one of them right away. (Never cared much for golf.)

And yeah, I some of these games I've never played (or in the case of Zelda, got anywhere) so this is a great oppurtunity for me to finally experience these games. I'll be saying the same thing again when the GBA games come out.

It occurred to me while I was playing Zelda 2, did this program exist in Japan as well?

I'm not disappointed by the selection either- well, it would maybe have been nice to get SMB2us (which I play way too much on my phone as it is, I suppose) or SMB3, but I can live. And SMB3 is probably too big of a prize to give away for free...

SMB3 is a 23-year-old game, made for an obsolete console that is no longer being produced. How is that "too big of a prize?"

I'm just gonna come right out and say that this "ambassador program" is a pretty big load of crap. Nintendo is compensating early adopters who paid too much for a rushed, flawed console by feeding them a bunch of ancient shovelware, some of which is nearly three decades old. Stuff that's already been shoved down our throats numerous times as a cheap, effortless alternative to new and interesting games. (Seriously, how many times has Balloon Fight been rereleased by now?)

It all just seems like a huge cop-out to me.

Well, because people would pay for it otherwise. If we were talking about a book, or a movie, or whatever, it'd still be on the shelf for sale. As opposed to say, Balloon Fight or something.

I disagree- why does Nintendo owe early adopters anything anyway? They bought into the 3DS as it stood at its time despite its flaws and overpricing. And I actually never played Balloon Fight before the 3DS promotion.

The overall issue of Nintendo remaking rather than making new games remains and is a big issue with the 3DS, of course... (Ocarina of Time 3D is nice and all, but it's not a new game in the least) But I don't think this is necessarily an example of it...

I just think Nintendo relies far too much on their old games and franchises to deflect criticism and keep themselves afloat. It's worrisome that so many of their recent and upcoming games are either rehashes or ports of older games.

Nintendo veers back and forth between "Let's make new iterations of our games" to "Let's rerelease the garbage over and over again."

Right now is the latter. I'm not touching the 3DS until they make it cheaper, put more new games on it that I want, and so on. Some people may choose to accept Nintendo's behavior, but I will wait until they decide they actually want my cash before paying them any.

You have to remember, a number of the old games Nintendo releases again because the fans really want it. As old as SMB3 is now, it still sold over a million copies on VC. And know what? If it came out on the 3DS VC, I'd buy it there, too. Honestly, you'd get more fans angry at Nintendo for not bringing back the favorite old games instead of releasing a game once and never touching on it or its type again.

And keep in mind, the remakes and ports like OoT3D and Star Fox 3D are produced by other companies, not Nintendo themselves. Why? So they can devote their entire company's resources to work on the new stuff.

And BMF, I'd like to point out that you're complaining about freebies. Would you rather they us any compensation for paying extra?

Two arcade releases, NES, Game & Watch, Virtual Console, 3DS.

The Gameboy release was actually a sequel.

Now, personally I wouldn't count the two arcade ones anyway, given that it was only a year apart and that arcades are an entirely different beast from the home market. And if we're only counting home releases, that's four times - the newest two a full twenty years after the oldest.

Perhaps a stronger case could've been built around the more obvious titles?
