"A horrible person". That's what it says. "A horrible person."

We weren't even testing for that.

(not a poll because we all know polls are evil)

This might seem obvious, but surprisingly, it isn't! English comes in a variety of flavors, and people sometimes pick one or the other out of personal preference, even if his or her geographical location would normally dictate usage of another. So, what English variety do you use?

For me, just reading this very post should make it painfully obvious.

* Sanky wonders what exactly will happen if he puts a lot of text inside this little pretty box. He can't help his curiosity and proceeds to fill this box with text in third person, which is what you're reading now.
I generally use american English, although I recognize the differences.

I use singular they when referring to a person of unknown gender.

At one time, i didn't capitalize my i's. I should start doing that again.

As Bruce Willis put it, "Listen lady, I only speak two languages: English and bad English". Otherwise known as American English.

I tend to use the British spelling for words such as colour and such, but I have been exposed to American English a whole lot more so I'll assume I mix it a lot without thinking about it.

English English

Obviously, British English but I do tend to prefer some American English words, such as movie as opposed to film. Or fill'um, as some people say.

I don't know why, but somebody saying fill'um drives me crazy.

I say "film". They really don't say movie over there? Movies are throwaway pieces of cinema. Films are works of art.

No, it seems that people prefer to say film. I never really liked it. Then again, I was brought up on American television (M*A*S*H, Frasier, various others) so I'd quite easily pick it up from there.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Just plain northern American English. I'm sure there's a lot of different variations and ways to define it, but I know nothing of linguistics, so I have nothing to really go by.

A sample of me speaking if that's more useful.

This is pretty much the same for me.

American English, pretty exclusively.

Slang-wise I tend to use California slang, since I've lived here for 2/3rds of my life...since I was born in North Carolina, though, I'll occasionally say "y'all" or whatever.

I use British English spelling, Canadian English pronounciation, and American English for Z.

I think I pretty much just use standard American English, except sometimes a British spelling like centre creeps in.

As I think I've said before, I wish I had more of a Boston accent. Though really I'm not very good at judging my own pronunciation of things...

Yeah, your English seems really neutral American to me. I think you have to live in the not-(ghetto)suburbs to develop an accent.

I have a fairly neutral american accent but it's kinda odd

it kinda would sound southernish to a northerner
it kinda would sound northernish to a southerner

also I use informal slang frequently in a formal matter
