There's reasons; mainly energy conservation. Making people have more sunlight during the summer = less lights on = less power consumption = less money spent and more resources saved.

However, why they don't try to max during the winter as well is beyond me.

I think it's weird that Daylight Saving Time isn't 'til November something (3? 4? I forget. Next week sometime, anyway) this year, and yet my computer switched over at the old, 'normal' DST date. I was very confused. It happened after our power was going out all day, so I just figured that's what it was, but of course, our computers should have been the right. But.. yeah. They weren't. :<

I always liked it in the fall, but hated it in the spring. I had enough trouble getting up on time as it was, for school, and having to kick myself to get up yet another hour earlier was just.. D: But now I'm not in school, so I can just enjoy the fall back, for now.

cpubasic13 had me thinking DST ended last night, so I was all happy that we went back an hour.

Then he had to spoil my fun by pointing out it was actually weeks later.

Sometimes I wonder why we don't just permanently move an hour ahead if it's that good for energy conservation and crap.

Heh heh, we don't change time where I'm from . Then again, now I have to get accustomed to being in "Mountain Time," which is sort of bad too since I've got friends who live in EST so I'll have to remember to count 2 hours instead of 3
