Reminds me of when the Anonymous thing revealed who was being nice because they were nice people and who was doing it only because somebody could keep track. The number of posts one has is immaterial to their status except for activity; quantity != quality. Furthermore, if you needed post count to want to post more, then who says you really had anything to say when you posted? Likelihood then is that it'd lead to posts made up for the sake of post count, AKA spam. From what I've seen, this change is not to cut down on spam, but rather, to show that post count is immaterial to a message board. Particularly this one. I have actually found myself posting more now that it is gone, so I'm not sure about you guys, but this change seems to make it more fun, not less, to post. ____________________

Lack of posts where people can gloat "HEY I HAVE 1337 POSTCOUNT", "LOL 666TH POST", and "DOH I WASTED MY 1000TH POST!"

I really see no reason to worry so much about post count being shown. Its not important. If you really think that quantity = quality then you really haven't been around other places to see how far off you are.

It's just something really trivial. I mean, what's the point of a mouse odometer, other than just to have something silly? Not to mention, the occasional landmark number posts. I mean, it's nothing to make a thread over, but it's nice to know when you've broken 1000. Not to mention, it's also interesting knowing your average posting rate. How many posts you do per day, pretty much (but instead of it being your posting average from all posts, why not have it be an average of all posts you've done this week or this month or something).

I dunno. I never intended to look at post counts as the end-all be-all definition of activity. However, not everyone thinks this way.

To go out of one's way to say postcount matters is no more stupid than going out of one's way to write some kind of bad argument about why it doesn't matter, but in fact does somehow matter because in your "unique" case it has some kind of reverse effect.

So, by your logic, that silly argument you slapped together to support a silly cause doesn't make you feel good, yet you do it anyway. Okay, then. Probably some kind of e-penis stroking involved, I suppose.
