Oh well. Wes Anderson can be somewhat of an acquired taste.

I bet you'd like Rushmore, though.

I didn't think I would, but I really enjoyed The Royal Tenenbaums.

Yeah, it's pretty great and it's a really mature film especially for a young director's third movie, kinda like Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia.

Hm... do they show a lot of US movies in Puerto Rico? (Presumably redubbed) Or do they mostly show things made made originally in Spanish?

Only the latter; you need cable to get US channels if you want US shows. :/ We didn't get cable till like ... 2006.

I had never heard of that movie before, either. I admit I didn't use to watch that many movies before, anyway.

These are American indie movies I'm talking about, so a lot of people haven't heard of them, actually.

Ahh, okay, that explains something. I thought these were particularly famous movies that I really should've known about.

Generally, if the movie didn't make the theaters nationwide, it probably didn't broadcast in Puerto Rico (unless you had satellite TV with lots of US channels)

FieryIce, I talk almost exclusively about art/indie films when it comes to cinema. :T I haven't actually seen most "mainstream" movies.

I haven't seen many movies in general. They're not my thing, I guess. I might watch a movie a year, on average.

I'm really sorry to hear that.

Movies mean a whole lot to me and I think they are a sorely under-appreciated form of art.

I don't think I underappreciate them but between not having TV here, not having a theater nearby, not having the money to buy DVDs, and not wanting to illegally download stuff (since US ISPs began monitoring traffic), there are really not that many opportunities for me to watch anything.

Sometimes I watch Japanese films with my boyfriend, some like Spirited Away were amazing~

Oh, I know you don't. I meant people in general. I'm personally someone who's planning on going into a film major, so it makes me sad when I see people who say movies suck. I've managed to convince some people otherwise, though, by showing them some movies but some other people can't be helped.

They're stuck in their hole of movie-naΓ―vetΓ© and constantly say it's "not their thing".

Well, not everyone is into the same things

I think it's good that people like different things. More diversity in the world.

There's really a point where it's just being blind, though!

You seem to keep thinking I want people to be the same as me but if that's true it'd mean I'd have to be not-unique. Good diversity shows an interest in other things, not blind ignorance of it. There is something to be enjoyed for anyone in film or any arts but you just have to look in the right places.

My taste in movies is more of the shooting variety.

Air Force One, Star Gate, the two Stargate SG1 movies, Mewtwo Strikes Back, the Godfather, Band of Brothers (well, that's more of a series, but...), Out of the Past, Jurassic Park, Fargo, The Fugitive, ONLY the first Matrix movie, Terminator, Demolition Man, etc.
