上手に生きられますように・・

Unused Development Stuff (What the people making the game were up to is always interesting. This includes stuff like "GRAPHICS GO HERE")
Anti-Piracy Measures (When aimed to fuck someone up in a fun way)
Debugging functions (When good enough)

Unused Stages/Areas/Levels/Places/Locales/Synonyms (Always)
Unused Playable Characters (They hardly work, but I'm going to go with always as they always tell of scrapped game elements as well)
Unused Text (When in an RPG it details an entire plot that got cut)
Unused Items (Always, though while more commonly complete, they are less exciting than stages and characters)
Unused Enemies/Bosses (Always, they are always fun)

Unused Music/Sounds (You might wonder where it'd go... but that's kinda it. Still, listening a nice song is a bonus)
Unused Graphics (Kinda like songs, but beyond an interesting thing there's not much more to it with the occasional exception-- Development-related graphics I'd dump them to the development text above.)
Unused Text (When it's minor strings)

Hidden Sound Tests (Hidden shouldn't mean "Easilly unlockable"-- Something like Galaxian is surely awesome, but otherwise beh)

Regional Differences (Though there is the rare interesting one, 99% of it is an small graphic change. Besides, most of them are common knowledge too.)
Revisional Differences (Same as above)
Build Text (This doesn't deserve to be among developer notes)

Of course, in the end it all deppends on the actual thing. Nobody cares about a debug mode that only skips levels but there could be text for an entire scrapped third of an RPG.

E: Edited to express it better like everyone is doing.

Unused Music/Sounds
Anti-Piracy Measures -> if they're as interesting as Earthbound's, sure, but not boring ex. "This game does not work on your SNES/SFC"
Hidden Sound Tests -> as in "not unlockable without a patch code / hacked ROM"
Regional Differences
Revisional Differences
Unused Development Text -> not all that interesting, IMO, outside of developer rants and notes, and - coupled with revisional differences - build dates

The upper "Unused"s could be in any order, really, but that's it I guess.

I split the unused development text, because I find hidden messages pretty interesting, but something like "USRELEASEJUNE1990" maybe kind of less so.

There isn't a specific order for some of the things, so I'll put them in groups of things with more-or-less the same level of interest.

Unused Enemies/Bosses
Unused Graphics
Unused Stages/Areas/Levels/Places/Locales/Synonyms
Unused Items

Unused Playable Characters
Unused Music/Sounds

Anti-Piracy Measures (As in stuff built into the game to hinder you)
Debugging functions
Unused Text (Cut Dialogue and such)
Unused Development Text (Hidden developer messages, build dates, code, etc.)

Hidden Sound Tests
Regional Differences
Revisional Differences

Obviously, there are some exceptions that would move stuff around, such as unused songs being unused because they're just boring or something. Also, a debug menu as awesome as SMRPG's would go right to the top of the list.

From this thread, I've already realized that I should probably split developer messages from the other development text.

Hmm. Like Peardian, I'll group these by interest level, since many could go either way:

-Unused Stages/Areas/Levels/Places/Locales/Synonyms
-Unused Playable Characters

These two are really impressive bits of cut content. Entire areas and playable characters having gotten the axe suggests some fairly significant changes in development... and really makes me wonder *why* these things were cut, especially if they work perfectly.

-Unused Enemies/Bosses
-Unused Items/Abilities
-Unused Music/Sounds

These are always fun. Oftentimes, the unused music turns out to be extremely good, leading one to wonder why it never got used... same with unused items and abilities, which often work perfectly, and would've been great had they been included.

-Debugging functions

Why so low on my list? Honestly, it depends. If the debug mode allows you to explore the game in new and interesting ways, such as the ones in Link's Awakening or Lufia 2, I'm all over it. But a lot of debug modes are just stuff like "invincibility" or "stage select", which while fun, can be accessed with PAR codes *anyhow*... or even things like "hardware tests", which are totally useless to me.

-Unused Graphics
-Unused Text

Just curiosities, mainly. Unused story text can be fun, giving you insights on plot elements that got cut for whatever reason. I admit, I like ripping unused graphics and using them in my RM2K games, but as an actual unused element in a game... they're not exactly useful.

-Regional Differences
-Revisional Differences

It's always interesting to see what was changed between versions... though I feel like we're getting a little nitpicky with these of late, documenting everything from title screen changes (of course those are going to be different), to every minor text change, to extremely slight changes in color. Big differences, such as items that were completely different, drastically changed graphics, or entirely redesigned areas are fun and interesting. "PASS WORD" -> "PASSWORD", much, much less so.

-Anti-Piracy Measures (As in stuff built into the game to hinder you)

These could be interesting, if not for the fact that almost all of them are actually disabled by default with no way other than cheat codes to re-activate them... The Earthbound stuff is quite impressive, however.

-Unused Development Text (Hidden developer messages, build dates, code, etc.)

...bleh. While hilariously angry developer rants such as the one in Pachi-Com are awesome beyond awesome, almost all developer-related text is very mundane. Build dates and uncompiled code mean little to me (I don't even know what the code is supposed to *do*), and ... eh. Like I said on IRC, I won't lobby against these things, because they *are* unused content... I just don't *like* them, personally.

-Hidden Sound Tests

With all the ripped music formats (and MP3s) out there, these just aren't so useful. Though admittedly, I've been able to use them to grab SPCs that were missing from the sets in SNESMusic.org... so I can't complain *too* much.

I took some liberties with the formula, I hope you can forgive me. :x

Unused Development Text (Hidden messages)
Unused Music/Sounds
Unused Graphics
Unused Playable Characters
Unused Enemies/Bosses
Anti-Piracy Measures (Complex, devilish)
Unused Items
Unused Text (Cut Dialogue and such)
Unused Stages/Areas/Levels/Places/Locales/Synonyms
Debugging functions
Hidden Sound Tests
Regional Differences
Revisional Differences
Anti-Piracy Measures (Boring, "game crashes with black screen")
Unused Development Text (build dates, code, etc.)

Iron Tank is my favorite page on the wiki for multiple reasons, the greatest of which being "Oh my god I don't believe he actually said that." The same with Erika to Satoru no Yume Bouken. They're just so... unexpected. There's also the hidden development scrapbook in Xtreme Games or whatever it is for the GBC that hasn't been put up on the wiki in a proper page. It's actually quite the beautiful thing.

And why the differentiation between AP measures? ... because when a music game does this, it's a lot more interesting than just "YOU CAN'T USE THIS GAME IN YOUR COUNTRY." Another example is in Umihara Kawase DS... after a few successful grabs with your fishing line, you lose the ability to swing entirely, making the game completely unwinnable with no warning whatsoever. :x

(sigh) I'm going to do some liberties too.

Unused Playable Characters
Unused Stages/Areas/Levels/Places/Locales/Synonyms (depends on how big the area is)
Unused Minigames/Game Modes
Unused Enemies/Bosses
Unused Abilities
Unused Items
Unused Graphics (Unused Movies could also be here)
Unused Music
Unused Text (Cut Dialogue and such) (Developer messages included)
Complex Anti-Piracy Measures
Complex Debugging functions
Regional Differences
Revisional Differences
Unused Sound
Simple Debugging functions
Hidden Sound Tests
Uncompiled/Leftover Code (Depends on what it is, though)
Build Dates
Simple Anti-Piracy Measures

(EDITED:Changed twice, due to suddenly remembering all sorts of things.)

I'm going to use the categories currently on the bob, the order would be the same if trimmed to the the 13 in the OP

Unused game modes
Unused playable characters
Unused enemies: I think this should be altered to enemies and NPCs. I've been treating it that way at least.
Unused items
Unused music
Unused areas
Developer messages
Debug functions
Unused abilities
Unused text
Region differences
Hidden sound test
Unused graphics
Unused sounds
Anti-piracy
Leftover code: Not interesting unless it illustrates one of the above
Build differences: Patch notes.
Development-related text: Obsolete when we have both code and developer message categories.

For me, but honestly almost all of those are, like, 1% total difference between the other. I love all the little tidbits of information--but things like unused or scrapped levels and characters have the biggest impact, because they have the biggest impact for me as a player. I interact with that stuff more. To know something may have changed or was different at some time means I could have experienced the game (and still could should a leak somehow occur miraculously) differently.

I really find text, debug stuff, leftovers, and developer messages truly interesting though. It's just of a different nature compared to that other stuff. If I had to pick and choose which of these I preferred over the others, I'd probably refuse and demand to have all of them
