Either. The bump doesn't let me turn quickly enough for a quick mini-turbo, and the d-pad is too low on the system to be comfortable when I also need to be able to reach L.

Yeah, playing DS games is a bit uncomfortable. I've been playing Chrono Trigger DS, and it gets uncomfortable after a little while. I don't have trouble reaching L, though.

EDIT, because of the way the movement code works in chrono trigger ds makes the thumb stick very difficult to use.

Really? I didn't have any issues in CTDS.

I can use the thumbstick, but when I need to go back and forth quickly - for example, for miniturbos in Mario Kart - it becomes an issue.

Hm... now that you mention it, that weird stick would make playing DS games kinda odd...

The last flickers of me wanting a 3DS sort of are dying at this rate.

Yeah, it's not worth it unless there's a game you want.

Also the scaler looks like crap for DS games, and original size mode is too small. Chrono trigger ds fucked up the fonts, too. Tiny text but it's spaced out very far. Kind of sucks through the scaler. Also text box colors are almost all very bright and washed out and make the text hard to read. It's kind of a disappointing port for those reasons because reading the text that is unnecessarily hard to read becomes fatiguing.

I'm really not having any of these scaling issues people keep talking about. The scaling looks fine to me. But since it's so common a complaint, I'd suggest trying some of your games on one first.

That said, in the "original resolution" mode, the display area is in fact smaller than on the DS Lite. I just tested, MKDS on the Lite and SoulSilver on the 3DS. Didn't measure it, but a physical comparison was easy enough. Higher pixel density, I suppose.

A large part of why the stick doesn't usually bother me is that the majority of my DS games are RPGs - Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Shiren the Wanderer. If that's the case for you, there won't be an issue, but more action-oriented games won't work as well.

I saw the developers in the Dimps team. They do not even approach near cool.

But that's just me. I possibly look pretty lame myself.

Anyway, yeah. When I saw the boss battle on the 3DS preview, I died a little inside. I am still hoping to save up for the Xbox 360 and Sonic Generations. That way I can also get Fable 3 and Banjo Kazooie Nuts n Bolts. I guess I'm a sucker for making things.

I was playing Sonic Rush with the scaling and the Circle Pad as my main control, and honestly I thought it worked pretty well- really I think there are some games it won't work as well with (and it wouldn't surprise me if Mario Kart was one of them) but you can't rule out all action games either.

So the 3DS had a bad quarter. Just over 700,000 consoles sold worldwide in Q2. Nintendo's response?

Erm... *hits panic button*

$80 price cut as of August 12 down to $170. Yeah. That fast.

Having said that, if you do have a 3DS, Nintendo considers you a "3DS Ambassador". So what does that mean? Well... you're getting 10 NES VC games and 10 GBA VC games for free. So we can also add "Nintendo adds NES and GBA Virtual Consoles" to this list as well.

I was browsing through Engadget and saw that announcement! You aren't kidding about panic button. I was figuring it would drop $50 at best before the holidays but $80 price drop and free games to previous buyers is crazy! All that could have been solved with a stronger software release, too. They didn't have enough games out there and still don't. They were probably banking on the fact that it's still backwards compatible to keep sales going. But people want new stuff.

I'm not surprised the 3DS isn't selling well- it's the games, there still just aren't enough of them.

Still, pretty happy to hear about getting free stuff.

The thing here is, that the original price tag was too high. Nintendo pushed the console out early, and could not back it up with any software.

We are also starting to see phones which got the same 3D screen set up, which means they can't take out monopoly price for it any more, people who just want the "gadget" part of it will go somewhere else then. I was honestly expecting a price drop soon, although, not such a steep one.

Now let's hope they don't fuck us over and actually give out those games. :p

This actually makes it slightly affordable for me ... still, I would have to wait until at least Christmas to get one. :/

While the thought of free VC games is tempting.. I think I'll be getting one after the price drop. There still isn't enough software available to warrant a purchase for me.

I am so excited about the news. Sure, it means I bought it at the peak of its price, but Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Balloon Fight, and Legend of Zelda all for free?

Fix the atrocious battery life and release some decent games that I haven't already owned for over a decade and we'll talk.

Seriously, I'm fed up with shovelware. I don't care how pretty the graphics are, or how mind-blowing the 3D effect is. I want something FRESH.

QFT.

OoT 3D and starfox are both great games, but they are also games I have already played to death. The only "wow" titles on the way is paper mario, and I have not heard anything about that recently.

While Star Fox 3D looks more appealing to me than OOT 3D, I would like at least one completely new game to come out that appeals to me and ISN'T that horrible DIMPS 3DS game before I use my limited cash on buying one of those gizmos.

We're going to be getting a whole lot of games by the time the holidays roll around this year. Until then, there's... um... Steel Diver? I'm not all that big on submarines, but it's from Nintendo EAD, so you know it's going to be good if it interests you. I'm curious, how many people here have tried it?
