M83 – “Unrecorded”
M83's upcoming album is getting a lot of hype in the indieverse so they definitely deserved a listen. I didn't really know what sort of music I was expecting but it turns out they're an ambient electro-dream pop band. They kinda remind me of post-rock acts in a way but they have shoegaze aesthetics. Anyway, I picked their second album Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, which was released to widespread acclaim in spring 2003 and I absolutely adored it. The soundscapes they produce are very satisfying. This record is an aural treat and it really made my day. Just listening to it, everything felt a bit more beautiful in the world.
Can't wait for their next album. ____________________ About the author: A prolific contributor to Jul with some 1450 posts published, Sofi better fancies herself as a cinema geek, a composer, an occasional gamer, a budding fashionita, an absolute cooking newbie and a general life enthusiast-satirist. M83 – “I Guess I’m Floating”
I'm actually listening to Vampire Weekend's “Oxford Comma” right now but I wanted to talk about M83 more. I listened to their third album and it wasn't nearly as satisfying as Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts but it was still incredibly delicious. M83's music is pretty much what happens if you mix Sigur Rós and Godspeed You! Black Emperor and maybe Explosions in the Sky and load it up with a shitload of emotion and electronic sound layers. I happen to love all of those bands so that means M83 is awesome.
Great stuff that's quickly becoming a Certified Sofi Favorite®. Looking forward to their new album even more now. ____________________ About the author: A prolific contributor to Jul with some 1454 posts published, Sofi better fancies herself as a cinema geek, a composer, an occasional gamer, a budding fashionita, an absolute cooking newbie and a general life enthusiast-satirist. Muse - The Groove
A B-side from one of their singles, it starts out with random sporadic guitar wailing (kind of screechy and gross, IMO), then some drum beats kick in, and all of a sudden it settles into chord progressions and proper drums, and it's awesome. A kicking rock tune, even with a slow tempo.

The "With Me" track with Crush 40 singing it instead. As you may have noticed, I have a lot of Sonic music.

M83 – “Lower Your Eyelids to Die with the Sun”
I'm still savoring Before the Dawn Heals. It's so delicious-tchi.
Sigh, if I had to pick music for my death scene in a movie, I'd have it set to this beautiful, beautiful song. Eat your heart out, Sigur Rós. You won't be tugging my heartstrings like you did in Vanilla Sky, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou or 127 Hours like M83 ever will.

I Just Love You More - Kate Nash
Pretty good stuff. Not my favorite female musician (I'm more into Amanda Palmer and Jessicka Addams and the like), but still good--my friend Loren got me hooked on her. :3
(edit: 700 posts, holy shit)

The Future Soon - Jonathan Coulton
Actually a pretty sad song, but you wouldn't guess it from the bouncy, fun tune. Great song, in any case.

I'm listening to Hologram ~ it's part of the soundtrack of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I think it played at the end and also as the 2nd opening... I like it so much |

A song I just recently found thanks to YouTube suggestions: Girotondo by Verona.
I liked her other songs and this is no exception. I had no idea she sang in Italian too! |

Muse - Map of the Problematique.
Currently Muse is my addiction. Basically listening to this song (and two of their albums) on repeat in my car.

The Velvet Underground – “Heroin”
I got more of their discography and I'm seriously digging them. This is from their quasi-epοnymous début album The Velvet Underground & Nico which has this delightfully peel-able pop art banana album art by none other than Andy motherfucking Warhol.
Delicious stuff. And Lou Reed is delicious as always, of course. ____________________ About the author: A prolific contributor to Jul with some 1648 posts published, Sofi better fancies herself as a cinema geek, a composer, an occasional gamer, a budding fashionita, an absolute cooking newbie and a general life enthusiast-satirist. Daft Punk – “Digital Love”
Yesterday I was at the shoe store purchasing a wonderful pair of totally retro sneakers and all of a sudden this song started playing on the speakers. So I said to the store associate helping me, "I love this song." And he told me it was a great song from a great album and then told me about the Daft Punk movie, the animé one which I have of course seen.
So we talked about that and I told him about how the movie was actually planned out as they were writing the album and that the movie wasn't actually fitted into the album as he previously thought. ____________________ About the author: A prolific contributor to Jul with some 1664 posts published, Sofi better fancies herself as a cinema geek, a composer, an occasional gamer, a budding fashionita, an absolute cooking newbie and a general life enthusiast-satirist.
