They already said they were going to. But you know they won't put out another one without first coming up with a new idea and making it the best they can. If you still end up not liking it, you can just not buy it.

Now that I think about it, I wonder how King K. Rool would fare as a fighter. He certainly has a range of moves to pull from. Hmmm... think they'd give him his shotgun from DKC2?

That said... Sakurai didn't even want to make Brawl at first. I'm almost certain the next game is going to be the Beautiful Katamari of SSBB -- a game you can tell was a forced endeavor.

You mean ANY SSB game wasn't forced beyond the first one? SSBB was kind of "Ok, I'm fed up with you guys, I'll do my best and then fuck off". So of course this game will suck either way.

Anyways, I'll just say Byrne/Staven/Diigo/Diego/whatever would fit in better than most characters. He'd have a pretty unique style that would still blend with the rest, and clearly rivals Link in his home game.

The only problem he'd have is that there are too many Zelda characters. (Even though they are LOL TRIFOARS)

Also there probably needs to be another Metroid character. One of the other hunters would work the best, but it's not like any got much importance in the series as a whole... Given the trophies seem to like talking about Sylux and how it contrasts with Samus, probably that's the better one.
Alternatives boil down to Generi-Pirate or a chozo in a suit like Grey Voice did at a point. But either would be mostly some sort of half-fancharacters, as there's no generic pirate with a high level of depth and no chozo character, let alone chozo warrior, has ever been shown directly in any game.

Yeah, more Metroid characters would be nice, though it's not like there's a whole lot of really good non-monstery characters in the series to choose from. As for the hunters, Weavel could be a good choice. Not only is he (somewhat) a Space Pirate representative, but he's got a different style of weapons and such. He could probably pull off a number of moves with his wrist blade. Plus there's the turret body, which could be fun.

Considering how common the idea that "Brawl would've been better if Sakurai had stayed out of it" is, that could be the best sales pitch they could make.

I fixed that for you, bro. I tried to break that for you, bro. >>; He's Solid Snake another poorly balanced character. He brings down gigantic walking nucllear-equipped battle tanks *by himself.* Therefore he is not supposed to be beatable. That would just be lame. Expecting him to be balanced in a party-oriented fighting game series *known* for being about as balanced as MvC2 is just silly. Although given that Mario blows up entire galaxies, I have to say, he is completely underpowered. And I don't get why Sonic can't kill anyone in 8 hits. He could do that in his games, so why not here? And another thing, why don't pokemon moves that are critical hits... (...)

* Gaming is now known as GameFAQs

You actually seriously believe Master Chief should appear in the next Smash Bros.? Did you, uh, completely forget that the Halo franchise is exclusive to Microsoft's consoles, and thus the chances of licensing the character are less than zero?

While this thread is terrible, I would like to pitch in and say the only actual likely suggestion so far has been Mega Man, and that's iffy because he's a third party character. Though if we're going the Konami route instead of Capcom, why hasn't Sparkster been in Smash Bros. yet? Huh? Huh? Huh? If they're gonna go as obscure as Ice Climbers and Lucas from Mother 3, why not the little guy from Rocket Knight?

They may be obscure to us now, but there's no telling how popular they were in Japan when they were released.

This thread would probably be a lot better if most of the posts weren't dedicated to whining about Brawl and a game they haven't even started development on instead of actually contributing.

On topic, Mega Man might have a chance if Capcom hasn't killed him off by the time the game starts development. Personally, I'd like to see him in. Even though he's not a Nintendo character, a great amount of his games have been exclusive to Nintendo consoles. I can't imagine what kind of move set he'd have, but they've put him in fighting games before, so I imagine they'd come up with something.

I think you just contradicted yourself, Peardian. Your complaining about our complaining is only going to make this topic worse.

And our complaints are valid: they have planned to make the Wii U and 3DS as their SSB4 platforms, Sakurai is being forced to do the game even though he doesn't want to, and Brawl is horribly, horribly balanced.

You're free to disagree, but it's really childish to discount everyone else's opinion as whining.

I think Mega Man would be one of the most likely, as well as prolly the most requested aside from Geno.

Whoa, hold up. I think the nature of my joke just got interpreted as something hostile, and I wanna be super-clear that it wasn't meant as such. >>;

Some explanations of the joke, aside from "Hurr, Snake is stupidly powerful in his own game-universe."

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has no sense of game balance. Out of a roster of over 50 characters, 5-7 of them are viable in any form of competitive play. That is poor balance and bad game design, especially since MvC2 is (supposedly) designed from the standpoint of "Let's make a competitive fighting game for tournament purposes." I *agree with your point* about Brawl being unbalanced. I was just making a joke about Snake.

Meanwhile, although this isn't a defense of the game: Brawl isn't a competitive fighting game. I don't care how much the tourney players want to dress it up as one, it isn't. It's a party game. Almost all the design cues -- from the stages that are always banned, to the lax attitude on relative character strength, to the Final Smashes, to the items and assist trophies -- all of these elements are choices that intentionally make the game more chaotic, unpredictable and exciting to play in a party atmosphere. And even if you take away *most* of the random aspects, you still have that ridiculous balance problem with the characters themselves, which can be remedied... by all of those random aspects you have to strip away to make the game "competitive."

Smash Brothers is a party game series. If you want serious attitudes towards game balance and complex strategies, play a fighting game. Meanwhile, I'm gonna turn all the items on "High" and play as Ganondorf on Rainbow Cruise, on a ten-minute coin match. :x

(minor edit: broke my italics tag. D: and made an emoticon in my edit notice. AND I made a mistake. Goddamn it three edits. Sorry!)

I definitely agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment.

You can slash and burn a lot of the game to get something that resembles a 'good' fighting game but you can certainly tell that the game's heart isn't there and never wanted to be there.

I think the next Smash game will be more random than and play more slowly than Brawl. As a result I don't think I will be all that interested in it.

Games don't have to be for just one kind of person. The fact that different people play the same game and get different kinds of fun out of it is a good thing. A game that can be enjoyable for parties, among people who have just learned the controls, and also enjoyable for tournaments, among people who have dedicated untold hours to mastery of the game, has achieved greatness.

Super Smash Bros is a party game, but it is also a fighting game.

You should play the game that you want to play, however you want to play it, no matter how the designers thought you should be playing it.

As far as characters I'd like to see in the next game, mostly Kisuke from Muramasa: The Demon Blade. It was Wii exclusive so maybe it could happen???? yeah right.

I'm probably not going to like the next SSB game as much as I liked Brawl... brawl pretty much changed my life as it was my first wii game.

I'd love to see some more MGS characters. pretty much all I want.
