Yes, the writing is bad, and perhaps cheesy or somewhat biased; I found it on PCMag and thought those who were the most confused as to how Google+ differs from Facebook might find it useful.

If Google+ starts having games, I really hope they do something like Yahoo! Games years ago. You know, Literati, Checkers, etc, all lightweight.

games.google.com?

While this is not a comparison of FB and G+, it can give you a nice idea on how it works (maybe you can work out the differences):

Frankly, I thought it was useful (even if I already knew most of that).

I see they've reused the Google Reader hotkeys- that would be easy for me to get used to, at least...

I have a Google+ and quite frankly it's
user and/or privacy controls are fairly confusing

but one of the cool things is that it uses
google talk as its method of chat

which is really handy because you can
chat with gmail contacts and google+ friends
through every service that supports gtalk

Google's stocks rose a whopping 13% today, raising the Nasdaq and adding $1.9 billion to Larry Page's wealth, according to Bloomberg news. Man, it would've been nice to see this coming and to have bought stocks when they first mentioned Plus...

More tips on Google+:

Also, apparently Twitter has been having a lot of downtime this evening. Naturally, there's a ton of speculation on whether it could be updates in reaction to Google+.

Too bad, then:

Google has yet another trick up its sleeve

Google will a game network that ties into Google+ very soon, and it could have two huge advantages over Facebook: more money for developers and faster performance.

Sources tell Tricia Duryee at AllThingsD that the game network is launching soon, and Google will plan on taking less than 30% of the money for game downloads and in-game purchases. That would break the standard pricing that Apple and Facebook have set on downloadable apps.

A bigger cut for developers means they'll be more likely to port their games over to the new network.
Google just launched in-app payments a couple days ago which would give developers a way to make money from selling items in the games.

The game platform will also reportedly use Google's Native Client technology, which allows games to run directly within the Chrome browser (or Chrome OS) -- with no plug-in required. That should mean better performance than the Flash games that are common on Facebook.

Google showed off Native Client at the I/O developer conference earlier this year, and game development tool builder Unity posted a good explanation of why the platform is so powerful after the show ended.

And for a quote from the article the last link was from:

The Developer Sandbox also includes a station showing another Google technology which, experimentally for now, we’ve made Unity support. That technology is called Native Client and we think it’s a potential game changer for rich web applications and games in particular. In a nutshell, Native Client is a security sandbox currently in Chromium that allows the secure execution of native code. If you want to dig into the details (e.g. how can native code be guaranteed secure?!), I *highly* recommend you watch Henry Bridge’s explanation in this video.

If we really cut to the chase for why this matters for Unity, it’s because what we’re showing is Unity running in Chrome with no plugin at all. That’s right, there’s no Unity Web Player installed on the machines running Unity content in Chrome. Rather, with Google’s clever technology, we’re running Unity content in Chrome using just default access and no additional installation or user interaction. It’s kind of wild!

This sounds pretty great! I don't generally play games, but if it will allow for more advanced games, then I'll just have to wait and see!

Intriguing. Google+ is definitely a gun aimed at Facebook. I have to wonder if Facebook will become the new Myspace, then. I mean, native code execution is pretty big. They could run full on desktop games through that interface.

I don't know- is gaming really that major of a draw for Facebook?

I mean, a lot of people do use Facebook games, but that's not really the reason someone joins Facebook to do.

It's a big draw for developers due to the potential playerbase. Until Google+ can offer that, I don't see developers flocking to it.

Yay! Good news for me, Ryebread, and potentially other people who dislike being flooded with game status updates:

We know that Google has a lot planned for Google+, adding brand pages and support for new features in the browser and via its mobile apps in the near future. There was talk of games coming to the platform but today the new feature has been confirmed via a Google+ help page.

Slashgear reports that in a section entitled “Content that appears in the stream”, Google explains the different ways that content can be displayed and accessed, making note to a previously unannounced “Games Stream” that will post updates from games connected to the service.

http://thenextweb.com/google/2011/07/22/google-games-confirmed-will-appear-in-new-games-stream/

Just as there's the normal stream, and a stream for each of your circles, all the game updates will be isolated to a separate stream. How nice~

What about people that don't use chrome as the browser for games? I'd think that would require some addon or something for other browsers. :/

I was just wondering about that myself.

Asking people to leave Facebook is one thing, but requiring them to switch browsers as well? If that turns out to be the case (which I kinda doubt, unless Google really is that stupid), this service is going to be a spectacular failure.

I'd hope they'd have the sense to make a plugin for other browsers.

Yeah. My guess is that there will be plugins for all the major browsers, but none of them will be nearly as fast or stable as the native Chrome implementation. They're probably hoping that will be reason enough for people to switch.

Maybe the plugin will turn out to be Chrome itself, a browser within a browser.

Didn't they have something like that for IE? Not sure it's still around, though...
