True, SEGA continued publishing games, even if they sucked.

It's just the closest thing to this I have to go by. This is... fairly unprecedented on the 'jerkitude' level. Even the never-ending Duke Nukem Forever mess was handled better in some ways.

You just killed off what would've been my first Legends game, and was one of the reasons to get a 3DS.

To hell with your criteria - you didn't even release the Prototype, which would've been a way that you understand (that is, cold hard money) to gauge interest.

And apparently, to hell with all the work that's been done on the game, both from the development team and the contributing fans. Held all the character and Reaverbot design contests and votes for nothing, dragged Daisuke Ono and Akemi Kanda in for voice recording for nothing.

But hey, you did succeed with one thing. Sending to hell what was once your flagship franchise. With Universe and now Legends 3 cancelled, what Mega Man games are still left in development? None, right? One less reason to get a 3DS, one more reason to hate on you, Capcom.

I bet that MM11's probably in the works by Inti Creates for release at some point, but aside from sticking to the classic series... Capcom's got no confidence now. That's two MM games now cancelled since Inafune left.

I can understand if they thought the game was awful, but they had promised the prototype. Release that, and if the fans all say it's awful then at least you have a reason for pulling the plug *and* the fans won't hate you as much for that. (They'll hate you for an awful proto, yeah, but at least they'd have played it themselves instead of being left to wonder what could have been.)

What we're feeling right now is nothing compared to what game devs have to feel everyday, for every project that gets canceled."

granted, yes, it was a majorly dick move on Capcom's part, but you gotta think it wasn't the dev team's fault but corporate's. By boycotting them, you're only hurting the developers whose work you loved and supported so much.

I don't think a Boycott will really do anything, really. It didn't do anything to SEGA anyway.

What's more likely is a de facto boycott--without any Megaman games to buy, Megaman people will not be giving Capcom money, as that's all they buy anyway. Simple enough.

I thought it was major reason to turn your head when they said they needed to sell a demo version in order to get the full version done. So, honestly, this bit of news does not surprise me at all. :/

But I must say it feels rather bad, the game engine looked cool and with the 3DS already having a terrible time getting games on it I would most likely have picked it up.

I'm sorry, but I can't continue to support the company that flat-out said Mega Man is "not popular" here. That's an enormous slap in the face right there.

Maybe the dev team needs to pull an Inafune and either found their own company or work elsewhere if Capcom has so much disdain for them and their fans. Hell, maybe they can just buy the rights to Mega Man for cheap if it's such an unpopular franchise!

Saying Capcom would sell Megaman is like saying Square supports its fans.

Anyway, this is pretty much what goes under the ground for all game devs that have the higher-ups shit all over them. Sometimes they do it right at the start, other times they are assholes and have them waste all their work.

In this case, what they have done is disgusting. You just don't generate huge hype for a proyect, specially such a transparent proyect involving EVERYONE, and cancel it like if nothing. No wonder Inafune and apparently most dev teams left. I hope these guys can leave too, they did great and certainly don't deserve this shit.

Not to mention, regardless of how insane cancelling this particular game like that is, I don't think any franchise could survive the cancellation of two mayor releases in a row with nothing else supporting it-- They just killed Megaman.


Once Capcom loses all good devs (are there any left actually?), I hope wish they go bankrupt.

This is pretty ridiculous. To have fans get so involved and to have the development process so out in the open, then to just pull the rug out from under everything, especially something people have been clamoring for for over a decade... well, it's no wonder people are upset.

I was pretty interested in this game. It was one of the few 3DS titles (along with Kid Icarus) that made me want to have a 3DS. Now that it's gone, well, my interest in the system kind of went with it.

I feel for the developers. They put nearly a year's worth of work into this project just to have it disappear, never to be seen again.

I really don't get what's going on with Capcom these days. They were champs from the NES era through (most of) last generation. Then they dissolved Clover and it really started going downhill from there. They've either kicked out or driven away all of their "big name" talent. And they're quickly landing themselves on gamers' "publisher shitlists" next to Activision. They've put out some nice stuff this gen (mostly on portables) but they've also dropped the ball so many times.


I actually spent a few days or so saving every blog post posted on the English dev blog. I've been considering creating an archive site for it all if/when the original disappears off the face of the internet. I now have all the posts... I think, I still need to double check. This includes full resolution pictures, YouTube videos, and special pages (heroine design pages, 3D model viewers, Reaverbot Revival pages, etc.).
