"A horrible person". That's what it says. "A horrible person."

We weren't even testing for that.

It starts in two days. Normally, this wouldn't be worth a notice at all, but in Germany, it seems to be insanely popular this time around, because:

*It's held in Germany
*The last (Men's) World Cup in 2006 was also in Germany, and most people still remember it
*The German team appears to be a favorite

So yeah, something of a hype developed on it. Incidentally, the first game is Germany vs. Canada, so this will be a first test for our team.

After Sunday: Yay Canada! Great result against Germany despite the loss.
After yesterday: ...what happened?

(Recap: Canada lost 2-1 to a strong German team on Sunday, then lost 4-0 (!) to France yesterday. Eliminated. Such high hopes for the team this time too...)

Just wanted to say that while I'm not normally a fan of Team USA... WOW. They earned my respect during the Brazil game. (If you haven't seen the game, go out of your way to at least see highlights. Excellent match, better than 80% of the men's WC games from last year.) And Japan's performance against Germany... outstanding.

Predictions for tomorrow... USA 2-1 France, Japan 1-0 Sweden.

I'll do one better and say go out of your way to watch the whole game. It's on ESPN3.

That said, I'm not sure which was worse, the way the refs fucked USA in the men's Algeria game, or in the women's Brazil game. Horrible officiating, annoying 'gamesmanship' by Brazil towards the end (though I was getting mad at Wambach early in the game for flopping too much as well).

And wow, USA manages to beat a France team that outplayed them for most of the game 3-1. It's on to the finals for the American women!

I saw Brazil play vs. Canada live several years back (we won 2-1! Women, of course.) and yeah... WHINE WHINE WHINE. One of the Brazilian players got red carded after Canada's winner for mouthing off to the ref, and then a substitute got tossed too.

Got the scores wrong, got the teams right.

I think USA has a chance on Sunday but they will have to play at their very best. A performance like today won't cut it - Japan's emerged as one of the top women's teams in the world in this tournament and they romped over a Swedish team that beat the States 2-0. They're for real.

So...did you see the Women's FIFA World Cup with Japan and USA? That was quite a heartbreak for us wasn't it? I believe so.

It felt like it was the opposite of their last two games. In the quarters with Brazil and semis with France, they were outplayed nearly the whole game and somehow managed to win. In the final, they outplayed Japan the entire game and lost. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Even at that... you'd think that the Americans would know how to take penalty kicks. :\

(Doesn't beat Brazil at the Copa America who lost a penalty shootout 2-0 - yes, TWO-NIL. Brazil missed FOUR PENALTIES.)
