I'm going to say it for all the Metroid fans here.
There's no excuse for Ridley to not be playable now. Three of the bad guys from Nintendo's best franchises are playable (I'm including Ganondorf because we'repretty sure he's in) and no other Metroid character has been announced. I'm really hoping that they don't consideer Zero Suit Samus as the only other Metroid character because that would be a big let-down.
Also while I'm spouting off Metroid fanboyism ( ) why does it seem like the only stages they can come pu with from the series are the lava stages? There are plenty of brand new games they could pull levels from: Prime trilogy, Fusion, Hunters. Off the top of my head, I can think of Sanctuary Fortress, Chozo Ruins, Phendrana Drifts, and probably some areas from Prime 3 I haven't reached yet thatwould probably be great levels to play on. Or heck fight on Super Metroid's Crateria; I don't care just try a bit of level variety please Nintendo?

Regarding Ridley. He has had some size inconsistencies in games. Sometimes he is huge, othertimes as big as Samus. Add in he is a dominant flyer and that doesn't help matters. It would be nice to see him as an AT but that's about it. I can't see him as a PC. Maybe one from Hunters could be a PC but... not Ridley.
As for stages, Samus stages have always been lava related because they are usually the only ones in the games to have lava. It would be nice if they added in another one from somewhere NOT underneath the planet surface but... who knows?

True, but Bowser also has size inconsistencies. In the SMB1 he was Mario's size, SMB3 he was a bit bigger. SMW, he's kinda big. In SM64, he's like 2-3 times bigger than Mario and in Super Mario Sunshine, he was huge IIRC. So I don't think size has much of a problem with Smash Bros. As for the flying, he could be limited like Kirby, Pit, Meta Knight, Jigglypuff, and Charizard. In some of the Kirby game Kirby could fly indefinitely I believe, same for Meta Knight. He'd already be a gliding playable.
If he did turn out to be an AT, then I'd at least want to see him as Meta-Ridley. He could fly around the stage dropping those multi-missiles and shooting ultra-heated beams.
And I think that they aren't going to touch the hunters from Hunters because of the crazy Hunters fanboys that would go absolutely berserk and probably slay someone with a DS stylus if their hunter wasn't playable but the one they hate most is.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing Kanden or Spire.
Noxus and Sylux would be too broken, I think.
Weavile might work, though...

No I've been not on IRC because I've been hanging out on #jzd recently. And I knew he had to be in it but I didn't know how he'd return, unless we're talking about the shaft fight in which I already have fought him there twice.

As for the "Samus levels always have lava" thing... Brinstar Depths ring a bell?
(I liked it at least... )
Anyway, a Sanctuary Fortress (or Ing Hive for that matter; needless to say, the "evil atmosphere drains life" thing should be kinda ignored) level would be a great addition to the lineup. The only real future technology areas I can really think of in Melee were the F-Zero and Star Fox levels, and those were a bit... umm... more subtle about it? |

Big Blue was subtle? 
Well, the Metroid stages seem to relate to underground on distant planets. It makes sense for it, but it would be nice to have a stage on a space station though, but it could just as well be mistaken for a Starfox reference, hence probably why they keep with the underground.
