Seems rather anachronistic to me. Like, you could be watching a show that came out before whatever added product existed.

Exactly. I'm sure if Starbucks paid them enough, whichever station plays Friends reruns would change the Central Perk coffee shop to the Starbucks logo. I would think they would keep it at least somewhat era-related and not put new stuff in really old TV shows like MASH, etc. from the article. If they start showing PC products or DVDs/Blurays in episodes of The Cosby Show... then that is the end of TV reruns for me.

This seems to go a little far to me... I wonder how long until internet video sites will combine this sort of insert with tracking information so as to give everyone watching a different product placement.

I don't watch TV. As long as people join me, TV Networks cannot make up for it.

Nobody needs to watch reruns on the TV itself anymore.
