「英語が判る」間違っています。「英語が分かる」と「英語が解る」が正しいです。

私たちは英語が分かるが、英語で書きたくないよ。

short version: Whoa, wrong kanji. :x I'm letting the summer break get to me.

making sure I understood: "Eigo ga (wrong kanji)ru" isn't right. "Eigo ga wakaru" to "eigo ga (geru?)" are correct. We understand english. But we don't write it. "

:x

It would be the right kanji in some cases. Just not this one.

That's also read as わかる. Isn't it great how there's three ways to write what seems like the same word? (Hmm, what other language do we know that has words like that?)

At least with Japanese you can use 分かる all the time and still be right.

I was over-relying on NJstar and went "hm, that looks right." Completely and totally forgetting that I learned 分かる last semester. D: Thank you for the helpful method of correction, though -- reinforcing learning by making me read it the hard way. :x You're a bro, sir.

No problem. I'm doing this to help myself learn too.

What is this "NJstar" you speak of?

This is NJstar -- it's a Japanese word processor for those of us who don't know how to use the proper IME-thingie. :x Just, my dictionary on it isn't working, so I need to rely on my own memory to make sure I typed in the right word. >>;

I use the "proper IME-thingie". It's very easy to use, although it definitely lacks some of the features of NJStar.

The only NJStar feature I'm really interested in, the dictionary, looks like it's based on the same database as this. Not too useful when I want to know which one to choose.

(Okay, so the verb generator looks neat too, but Wikipedia's already got that covered.)
