Not really news worthy, but basically Google's bid for Nortel's patents were all mathematical constants.

In billion dollars worth of bids.

I think that's as close to trolling (and funny) as it can get =D

Well, at least they're creative about it.

It was not clear what strategy Google was employing, whether it wanted to confuse rival bidders, intimidate them, or simply express the irreverence that is part and parcel of its corporate persona. Whatever its reasons, Google's shenanigans did not work.

Maybe they just wanted to have fun. It's nice to know that in a sea of suits, there still is a person or two with a sense of humor. It's like, "Oh yeah! These are humans running the business! I totally forgot!"

That's trolling? How so?

Seems to me that Google has done similar stuff before with constants like pi and e.

I wonder if they did anything when they were in that spectrum auction awhile back. (Which they also ended up losing...)

It is kind of silly that they got so up in arms about the numbers--in all reality one can enter whatever number they want, it's fully legal. Even if the number is totally strange.

how is it NOT trolling? they were obviously trying to mess around, while still being completely serious in their bidding attempts. The fact that people ARE getting up in arms about it means it was a successful troll, at that

Google's logo for a single day be trollface.

Actually, that'd be a bad idea and would ruin yet another meme by going mainstream.

Memes are stupid as shit whether they're mainstream or not, so that's just retarded.

Stuff isn't clever just because you and a handful of people know about it. I hate that mentality, it's completely about excluding other people. I don't know if you go to that extent, but a lot of people will actually be insulting if someone doesn't understand some random joke or if they haven't heard it before. It's really primitive caveman shit that I wish people would grow out of.

I was obviously not going on about memes themselves, I was going on people who act like dicks to others because they don't understand the memes, and I also clearly said that I didn't know if you're like that, but addressed people who were.

It's not a good thing to try to exclude people on stuff like that. If anything people should be brought together by humor. If someone doesn't get the joke, then give context, so they can laugh about it too, rather than act like they're inferior just because they weren't on IRC at the same time.

Also you people need to stop assuming the worst possible meaning of stuff. Because your interpretation is really a pretty far push from what I said. It seems you're just looking to stir drama.

I find that memes can be funny if you understand them, and if from your experience say that people look down on people who don't get them then I must admit that you have been having some pretty shit experiences. (And I'll also hope you're not using 4chan as you basis for this arguments as that's a hole full of trolls.)

If anyone don't get a joke I try and explain it to them, but odds are, if they did not know it in advance, they won't think it's funny even if you explain it. Though, that could be that I mostly have injokes. ;

Well, yeah, I did mention that I hate most of the memes, but that wasn't the major focus of the post.

And I see a lot of that crap here, too. Someone will make a 1 word post about some joke they made on IRC or in an IM or something. People will ask what it means and usually get no response at all, though it's not usually to the point of insult on this forum, in most other parts of the internet, people can get pretty nasty about their random out of context references. But Gabu still showed that kind of "keep the reference/context hidden, so people can continue to be excluded" attitude in not wanting the meme to go mainstream (though it is pretty mainstream since people now pretty much use it all the time as it is, even when it's not applicable or not funny. Though I don't imagine random grandma who uses the internet for online poker or whatever doesn't know it, but who knows, they might find it funny if they're given some context.).

EDIT: Oh look, she continues to purposely misinterpret me in the intent to start drama.

Because then we'll have lame grandmas trying to use trollface completely out of context and make the meme more annoying than if it respectably died before reaching the masses.

I dunno, that'd be pretty funny to see. :p

Also we already have people who do that anyway. They would be a very minor impact on the internet anyway.
