Death Cab for Cutie – “I Will Follow You into the Dark”

I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to much of Death Cab beyond their good-not-great mainstream breakout album Transatlanticism. This song is from their 2005 album Plans and it was released as one of the singles for it. It’s a pretty cool song, but maybe I’m just a sucker for the raw sensitive-Pacific-Northwest-boy-singing-while-strumming-a-guitar sound. Ben Gibbard, you may be totally generic and uninspired now if all the anti-buzz around Narrow Stairs or Code and Keys prove anything, but I will forever be a fan of that sweet, dorky voice of yours.

I've been listening to Cults's first album. I'm going to see them live on Sunday. It's going to be great.

The Mountain Goats – “Fall of the Star High School Running Back”

I finally got a chance to revisit this album. The first time I heard it I was really tired and out of it since I only slept like two or three hours. Anyway, John Darnielle writes some absolutely wonderful lyrics. They're very witty and surprising and totally unconventional. I think they're pretty much brilliant.

I love this lo-fi shit.
