Seriously. I am going to miss this station if what happens does happen. While it does kind of go back to its roots as a news station, we freaking have enough and there is no other decent music station here.

Also here is a stream if you guys want to hear the awesome.

My face when I heard the news:

Yep, heard about that on radio-info.com... thought of you too, Gabu

Radio here is ridiculous too... no jazz station, no urban AC (basically R&B and soul music without rap) on FM (there's one on AM however), and two hip hop stations (used to be three but one is now a Hot AC I believe)

I used to like alternative rock then caved in and switched over to dance and hip-hop because our last good alternative station went to talk too...

We have no alternative stations here. T-T
We have Top 40, Country, and News stations. So basically I listen to CDs anytime I'm in the car. Ah well. CDs are cheap.

I had the reverse problem as a teen. I liked R&B and hip-hop mostly, but lived way out in the country where all you could get was AC, rock, and country. I'd try to listen to stations from Detroit with all the static.

There are almost no Classical stations here. Why must I be one of the only ones who likes it?

Seems to me that "alternative" music was considered different and rebellious in, like, the early '90s. It's been pretty much mainstream since 2000-ish, but the name stuck.

And I seem to be the only person on Earth who can't stand alternative rock.

I haven't (voluntarily ) listened to broadcast radio in ages. Seems to be more advertising than music these days.

That must've been LoveLine. They air some radio programs throughout the day about a specific topic, but it's mostly music.

I'm assuming alternate is anything that isn't rap, pop, R&B, country, soul, etc. Basically anything with a band.

Yeah, they used to have a station for it in Saint Louis too... I can't find it now though, when I want to listen to it

Paulguy's Post configuration
We have reasonably OK stations for classical/"eclectic" stuff. Mostly later at night, though.

There isn't really anything worth listening to here, except for SSL. Oh, and if you want to laugh about how some people are apparently stuck in time, you could try Radio Moscow as well.

I listen to classical music whenever I go to bed. I can almost remember the whole playlist of my current station by heart.

Sorry Gabu ;(

But don't feel bad, some places have been hurting for an alternative rock station much longer (like NYC, or Albany... in fact, Philadelphia alternative rock fans were fucked over twice (WDRE in 1997 and Y100 in 2005), by the same company too ;P)

The only smooth jazz station around here turned into an oldies station. This stank because smooth jazz was my station of choice while driving (smooth jazz and driving go together really well). Now, I just have the radio off. If nothing else, I'm now used to what my car sounds like at various different speeds.

The other station I used to listen to while going to sleep was an adult contemporary station. It's still around, but it kinda lost the "adult" aspect when they started playing gaga and that one dumbass black-eyed peas remix of The Time Of My Life every 10 minutes

Same with television, all of the stations I used to like have turned into realityshow realityshow realityshow OH HEY THAT ONE SHOW YOU LIKED realityshow realityshow realityshow. So now I neither listen to the radio nor the tv. If my TV's on, it's usually muted.

Welcome to America!

Pardon me when I say this, but the only thing I'm expecting from Merlin Media is faggotry. Or if you prefer, obnoxiousness. One news station is enough for me, and I doubt my parents are going to flock to Q101 now it'll be goddamn news. If anything this will start partisan bullshit with one station leaning left and the other leaning right and then I won't want to listen to EITHER radio station.

But yeah, this is going to suck majorly, so I'm doing the only logical thing and recording the station until the very end.

Nowadays, very few stations in Spokane last longer than a few months, no matter how popular they are. One station went from alternative, to classic rock, to "real rock" (?!), back to alternative, then to top 40, and I'm not even sure what it is now.

I really wish ClearChannel had kept their grimy hands off of our local stations. Worthless money-grubbing bastards!

Well, the DJ peeps at Q101 have barricaded themselves in and are still live on the radio even after midnight.

This is the Q101 spirit that I've always loved.

Edit: They went "off-air"/to an autopilot playlist, but the last songs played were 'Tonight Tonight' by Smashing Pumpkins and the very first song they first played in 1992, 'Friday I'm in Love' by The Cure. It went to auto-pilot at 1:01 AM.

I would be lying if I said that I wasn't crying. Again.

When 103.1 WHRL flipped here in Albany to news/talk, nobody saw it coming... and they just pulled the plug on the alternative rock format without any warning. At least Q101 isn't being a bitch like WHRL was (which btw was Cheap Channel owned )
