General consensus on ranking the E3 conferences seems to be Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. I agree with that order.
Nintendo: Wii U is a stupid name. The controller looks like it's gonna cost $80-100 by itself. But the promise is definitely there. The key to me is that they have a lot of A-list titles lined up by third parties already *and* Nintendo stated they'll reveal their online strategy within the last week *and* they've listened to third party developers regarding that. That seems to tell me that Nintendo's a lot more inclined this time around to listen to them and they'll tailor the machine's capabilities to attract them. If the machine's powerful enough and if they can maintain strong third party support, they're going to do just fine. As for the 3DS stuff... I dunno. The new Mario game looks excellent but I still want the system to get a more steady stream of top-quality releases before putting down my money for it.
Sony: Well... Vita looks really nice. I'm sure the games will be really nice as well. Still, not an exceptionally great press conference by any means. No major bombshells or anything like that, and Sony does need to throw a lot of weight behind Vita to make sure it doesn't go the way of the PSP. At least Sony showed some games but I really think they needed a very strong showing, especially given the events of the last month or so. They couldn't do it.
Microsoft: I am a happy 360 owner. I enjoy my 360 very much. You know why I enjoy it? Because I can play some great games on it. You know why I didn't enjoy the press conference? Because 90% of the damn thing was "KINECT KINECT KINECT OMG GET KINECT NOW". First off, Microsoft really should have had a few A-list games with Kinect support available WHEN THE PERIPHERAL WAS RELEASED. Regardless on how good the Kinect support is on the new batch of games, it's coming across as an attempt to shove the thing down everyone's throats. It left a really bad taste in my mouth because some of the games coming out look to be really good, but I'm ranking them last because they really didn't place as much emphasis on the games themselves. Almost felt like a damn Kinect infomercial.
