So I'm thinking about jumping into this soon, since it seems like everyone's actually playing this.
I just hope it's not gonna be like Minecraft where everyone starts to slowly get sick of it once I jump in for about a week or two and starts showing up less and less. =/

It only gets really boring when you've totally annihilated the map's resources and have nothing else to do but run around swinging swords like knights fighting invisible dragons. Or when you've maxed out on everything and such. But then you make a new char :>
That's when it's time to spend all of your money on Dynamite and raze the entire map to hell, literally.

So on the Cordilon Terraria server, I was hopping down holes, breaking orbs, and then I spawned Eater of Worlds.
I eventually died, and respawned in base.
Now, the Clothier had just appeared not too long ago. It took me a while to finally finish off the Eater of Worlds, and long story short, my biggest prize was the three Red Hats from him dying several times in the process.
Also, seconds after I logged on, a Blood Moon in which Doctor Bones spawned twice.

On a typical server, though, you can't do this.
Although I think clay generation is bugged and that's the lone exception. Don't quote me on that, though, as I'm not entirely sure.

 HARDCORE MODE!! - Potions maybe with buffs, maybe.
- NPCs with rotating inventories got teased
