Screw Gateway. :\

Hell, when we had Gateway comps to work on here we reflashed the damned BIOS with Intel...

I'm guessing they're the people who thought Vista would be amazing and became early adoptors.

The way it looks now, it's either stick with XP (which, even though I hate virtually every version of Windows with a burning passion... XP is bearable), or use/swtich to an alternative.

The only Windows version I really liked was 2000...

But, it doesn't matter now, as I'm on Linux, which is open-source and faster!

I'm kinda not thinking switching to an alternative, just because so many things are windows-only right now, since Vista seems to suck so much, and you can find XP-compatibility stuff for the 'vista-only' games if you try, I think I'll stick to XP, though a dual-boot system looks very friendly if I have to upgrade to Vista for gaming.

Anyone who buys a new computer from a major manufacturer is essentially stuck with Vista, though... that's why we have it on the "Newer Computer"...

Actually, the manufacturers are complaining to have comps with XP on them as well. They know the ones with XP on them sell.

This being the case, XP has actually JUMPED in price just recently. XP Pro runs 299 dollars now...

Good thing I've got it with the leaked copy of SP3 for zero...

Ironically I have no problems with Vista on my Linux comp. Hell Vista boots much faster =O

But I still my Linux. Not gonna get rid of it.

(oh BTW I'm using Vista because I got it for free. Yay college!)

If it's not broken, don't fix it. What's the point of Vista? There's so many problems with it, just stick with XP. Why did Microsoft have to push Vista's release so much?

On that note, Toshiba *VERY THANKFULLY* still makes laptops that have XP on them (or have XP as an option for what OS you want). I need to get a laptop soon, so I'm going with that XP laptop. XP Pro, because XP Home's pretty useless now.

Ironic sucking like ME did between 98 and 2000? I'd believe it...just like the gap between XP and Windows 7...

And since we're on the topic of manufacturing...the XP comps are starting to jump in price too. I would wonder soon if XP comps would beat out Vista comps in price due to demand.

Oh wow, I forgot about ME. 98 was ok, ME sucked, and 2000 was way better. Do you think that's happening again? Like, Vista is the crappy bridge between XP and an even better future OS?

A price jump can be caused by a few things. An increase in demand can raise the prices if it's causing a shortage by decreasing the supply. Do you think a price drop in Vista machines might follow? Also, if the price of Macs, an alternative to PCs, rises, then that could cause the price of PCs to rise too.

My Gateway laptop just used a standard modified XP disc, so you could just put that in any XP installation and have it search for drivers on it.

Slightly off-topic, but I always hated 98- I had to install it to get Verizon High-Speed Internet to work on my old computer (This was the 200MHz box that I had at the beginnings of my days on the board) and that was pretty much the end of it for that computer, it went from running fast and well on 95 to becoming a slow POS under 98...

Win98 needs a fair bit tweaking out of the box, but for its age, it's pretty good once you do that. Of course, this assumes you're using 98SE.

I'm a bit weird. I say that 2000 is the greatest operating system ever created, 98SE worst, and Mac OS 9 slowest.

Yeah... I've never had problems "running" ME since it wouldn't install for me to begin with (could be because of no NTFS support).

I'm using Vista.
And I haven't paid attention to its flaws.

Do those flaws include random complete stopping for no reason?
