Sounds like gd isn't installed. I forget the exact command to show all available PHP modules, too. :\

I believe you can check it from the php interpreter with a commandline flag.

If you're having this many problems, please use another forum system like phpBB.

I only recommend this because:
a) AcmlmBoards have a lot of bugs
b) Judging from this thread, you probably aren't skilled enough to fix them
c) They'll eventually cause your forum to get hacked

(And I'm pretty sure numgfx won't work even if GD is installed due to bad programming on Acmlm's part. Hooray!)

What "great features"? The only thing Acmlmboards really have are the RPG stats, which are next to useless.

And, while yes, you did bring it up... there are a whole mess of other problems you will likely encounter if you try using this forum system. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but trust me, nobody is going to detail each-and-every board breaking bug.

You could always take the time to write your own.

Although that solution isn't for everyone.

I'm writing mine in Python.

Any language that can be used over CGI can be used for forum creation. There's plenty written in languages other than PHP.

The board may also be missing the numgfx. Check out the images folder and such, and be sure you have the images--if you don't, it won't work, even with the right php stuff in it. And Acmlmboard is buggy, but if you just reprogram it it'll be just fine :p ____________________

If you don't have much experience with PHP, then I'd recommend not using Acmlmboard. Some of the features are, well, nice, but isn't the integrity and stability of your forum more important? There are loads of PHP-based forums out there that you could use, the majority of which would give you much less of a headache. If you don't want to fix things yourself, you're going to have to make some compromises.

And yeah, PHP, Python, Ruby on Rails, they're all good ways to begin a forum project. I'd recommend going with PHP, as it's more freely available and more flexible. The rapid development stuff in Django and Rails is very nice, but PHP is more hands-on and less controlling.

But if you're really insane, there's always Perl...
