Those who couldn't guess, this gem was on the old "Nsider" forums. Yeah, if you linked to a page with "php" in it, it'd forbid you to post. .htaccess "parse zmog as php" or whatever, problem solved.

I just can't fathom why these silly requirements are in place, since anybody with a frontal lobe could get around them. Hell, TinyURL would fix that last one.

Someone "hacked" the board via PHP, so the NoA staff decided to filter it. Since most, if not all, of NSider is "WOO HOO XBOX SUCKS HAHA I CANT HELP U SRRY", this dealt a major blow to links.

I doubt anyone there would know what a dynamic image is.

I once went to a board which would silently munch on posts that contained "lesbian", "porn", or "cartridges" (only the plural though). No board error, just a MYSQL error that didn't really tell you anything. We couldn't find any other edited words, even "fuck" etc. Maybe it was the crappy free host...

VGF used to have a filter which turned the word 'this' into random stuff.

They also once put a censor on the name ign.com.

But nothing intentionally stupid. These were mostly jokes.

Though their old censor on the word 'Dick' made it rather hard to refer to one of my great uncles by name.

Proboards come with a huge number of censored words in the filter by default. I remember not being able to type "spoon" because it contains a swear word I had never even heard of. At another one, it was very important to include the circumflex when typing the name of a character, Darklord Slûtar.

Yeah, I've seen dumb ones that wouldn't let you type shitake, bass, etc. Then there was all the "fun" involving censorship at GSCentral over the years. They had codes like "Have All SonCheat Device" for a while, and last I heard "KW" is filtered despite being a valid string in Gamecube AR codes.

I remember I got banned for a week for "censor-bypassing" within my first week on NSider. Really though, having to put spaces in urls cause of the php was dumb. Another one I found was ?action= being disallowed.

Filtering words is nothing more than an annoyance.
