So I'm doing my usual evening run-through of a forum which shall go nameless the other day and I notice that someone's posting in a thread they shouldn't be. So I break out Admin Red (tm) and warn the person to stop.

They reply to me in the thread I told them not to post in.

Another administrator replies to that, giving another warning in Admin Red (tm). At this point, I assumed the message had gotten through clear to the person in question.

It didn't.

He posted AGAIN in the same thread.

At this point, I snapped and locked out his posting privileges for 24 hours. If Admin Red (tm) isn't going to do anything, maybe "You are banned from posting until <date>. Reason: Posting in threads when told not to." would. If it didn't, at least it'd be silent for 24 hours.

No one posted a single thing for 24 hours.

When said person was automagically unbanned, he posts an entirely new thread about how he finds it funny that it was dead quiet while he was unable to post.

He's damn lucky I don't like to permaban people on a regular basis.

I just don't get some people.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Well, it depends on a variety of factors like the subject, and why he wasn't allowed to post in that thread. If it was a particularly childish reason, I'd say it was just.

Well, nowadays permanent bans are more like "indefinite" bans... nothing is really permanent anymore

Permabans generally were truly permanent in the Acmlm's I1 era. Then Acmlm lost control and a series of revolutions happened and people got a lot more chances

"Acmlm lost control" == "Acmlm realized Gunbound was a lot more fun than control"

RO also played a big factor...

Also, truly awful people will remain permabanned, even though sometimes I may have to remind people why they were banned years down the road.

Really, the behavior described in the OP is old hat to me. My signature is filled with the insane ramblings of one of said 'Persistent Idiots' who was permabanned for their foolery.

That's annoying, but it's reassuring to know if he keeps doing this then you can give him a longer ban/a permanent ban, so it's him in the loss at the end.

This is why on the internet, I prefer to pull few punches and permaban idiots very quickly.

They're either remarkably stupid, trollish fucks, or both if they're THAT crazy to get themselves permabanned like that.

They're just too dumb to post if they can't take a warning, let alone 3 of them. When I get a warning, I listen and learn from it like a smart person would do.
But because there's no IQ limit for Internet users we have to deal with such stupidities.

Why not just make it so only admins can post in the thread? In any case, this user almost seems like he's asking for a ban practically.
