EDIT- Wow, that's a pretty good translation, FieryIce! Though, when I said "langage familier" and "registre" it's more "language register", meaning what I read was more casual, as opposed to my own formal-consultative vocabulary. I'm not the type to keep logs of forums, and of course the English language is very familiar to me. (When talking about language in french, "familier" describes how people speak with other close people, people they are familiar with; casual or slang would be the best English equivalent.)

*Metal_Man88 tries to understand without knowledge of French

"I notice the discussion about Minecraft in Quebec French on the forum. Hmmm, Why (unknown)??? I believe Acmlm and Colin live there, and in addition I and my friend do.

It is bizarre to read french on the internet; it something the information for something, I something the forums of trilingual people, and it is different from most forums I go to.

My friends, iut amuses me more, that on an English forum there is French and a discussion on changing languages and talking in different languages for fun.

Very good, on the the people who don't know French, I wish my best. Should we continue the discussion of the language French?"

Yeah, it's probably wrong all over the place, but I am surprised I understood as much as I did.

I think that it would be awesome to have a forum dedicated to speaking in different languages. It could be a forum with individual threads for different languages conversations. That would be fun. I could also see how it could get spammy though.

We weren't even testing for that.

We did have a General language forum in 2001, but I think it didn't get anywhere.

I guess the question is, what would you talk about?

Anything, I guess, It would just be a way of practicing the other language so you don't forget it, and so you get better. But that's where the spamminess comes in though, because it's a whole forum of just free-talk, so that would be abused. Unless it was actual thread convos in different languages. It's mostly a wild idea, not really something I'd expect to ever happen.

I could see many, many problems with the language forum.

The largest one, in my mind, would that it would be hard to moderate. It would also be a hell of a job. Who wants to go through every thread and use Google Translate on all of it?

Actually, I doubt that'd be much of a problem- an insulting message that no one else can read isn't much of a problem, and if someone is insulted by it they can report it to the staff themselves.

The staff doesn't necessarily have to, there are plenty of trusted users here who would report misbehaving.

Also, MM, this is my translation of what Delpolo said.

I remember having had a discussion in Minecraft over the Quebecers on the forum; hmm, what did they say? I think that there's Colin and Acmlm who live there, and my friend and I.

It feels weird to read in French on the internet; while looking for information for school work, I always find forums with very familiar language, it's contrasting enough with my own logs and those of the majority of the English forums I go to.

Between friends, it's funny that we tend to speak randomly in English or French and sometimes we even switch languages in one conversation in between those who are speaking right now and those who've just joined.

But oh well, we don't want to isolate those who don't speak French, I think we should stop soon. (Didn't there used to be a thread for speaking in French?)

I like translating, maybe that should be my future job instead of teaching (poor Rick! )

I'm thinking of learning a language online for the heck of it and so I can talk using it to people. I was thinking about French. It can only help me to know more of the top 10 most spoken languages.

Hm. I'm amazed I understood as much as I did. I guess if I wanted to, I could probably learn French too, then.

Unlike learning Spanish, of which there are a ton of free great sites, learning French is a bit trickier to find a great website. I'm looking at this bonjour.com (first google result) and seeing whether it's any good. I'll be spending much on my summer learning a few languages, so it would be good, just to have the grasps (couple tenses and a few words).

I'm a bit surprised that Spanish learning sites are more popular on the Internet than French ones, given how prevalent French is in regions such as Quebec.

Spanish has more speakers than French worldwide, because so much of Latin America speaks Spanish

Well, it's probably because Spanish is more wide spoken throughout the world. There are some really good Spanish sites that are just as good as getting private lessons. I have yet to see a really good site for another language besides English that can even compare with those and is free.

I know a little bit of Spanish, mostly from a little bit I took back in elementary school.

On a side note...

MetalMan, where do you get those little rants in your sig? They're pretty funny.

A good language if you want to sound angry is Russian. I know a guy who has the cops called to hi place every so often because people think his parents are screaming at each other, when they are just talking in Russian.
