Machi-Machi v. Kyan!
I'm sure you've had them.

I was just in the middle of playing Killer Instinct (which isn't uncommon) and ended up figuring on a glitch that I've never run across before in the 12+ years I've played the game. Ended up pulling off an ultimate that ended in a knockover fatality...a two in one whammy.

For those of you who have no idea what that means, lemme clarify:

That's an Ultimate combo. You can do it after the opponent dips into the red in health and with a certain button press and at least three hits in a combo before it. Kinda fun to rub it in someone's face who's losing badly to you (I tend to do it when I don't feel sorry for some n00b schmup or if it's Colin). In this case I had 15 hits and then performed the combo. Nothing special.

That's the outcome of standard fatalities and ultimates. So what's the glitch.

Well I performed the same thing against Orchid a few minutes ago but it ended up going 'what' next to the edge...

The computer literally likes to cheat at times, preventing you from allowing your combo to be finished by breaking the combo without calling a combo breaker. It's the weirdest and most annoying glitch in the game...but this one turned out more odd. She just up and fell off the screen...no knockup, no nothing, just fell from where she was at off screen. I rofl'd.

Combo showing victory pose after Killer Combo (12-hits) registers INSTEAD of Ultimate which would've given me a HELL of a lot more points. 100000 pts. registers because of Perfect Victory...it should end there and fade out to the Awesome Victory screen...but it doesn't.

Orchid goes overboard after the ultimate...that's not right...*splat*

Though it doesn't show Perfect (it flashes) in that shot, it comes up Supreme Victory / Perfect instead of Awesome Victory Perfect. Knockover fatalities like the one that happened at the end make for Supreme Victories.

In other words, I did a Supreme and Awesome Victory all-in-one. Rare'd have to be rolling in their grave if they had one. Someone get me a pizza trophy full of steak-ums!

They should put Steak-ums in a Hot Pocket. Call it the Death Pocket.

Anyway, I dunno of any glitches that involve strange things at the moment. Then again that's due to my lack of actually playing anything noteworthy to find them.

I don't have any screenshot becouse this happened on the cart and the snes but whatever.

In Terranigma I leveled up after beating the scorpion thing in the fifth tower. But instead of the actual level up message and stuff the guardian talked first, then Ark did the animation, and suddenlly jumped to the sequence thing. But in the part where the souls fly back to the people, the level up sound played as well as the sound the message would make. Then it got stuck.

I pressed then various buttons and somehow a frozen chicken started moving, and a soul dissapeared. Pressed select and came into a corrupted pandora box with many repeated items and glitched messages, which froze and glitched the music. I got out and I was controlling the chicken around with many glitches around. Finally pressed select again and it crashed.

I seem to remember, the first time I played Sonic and Knuckles (on cartridge), when I got to the boss of Mushroom Hill Zone as Knuckles, the boss alternated between being Eggrobo and Eggman every time I lost a life, which was very confusing to me at the time...

In Sonic 2, Oil Ocean Part 2 (I believe) there was a part with the platforms that pop up, with some cannon shooty things about it (the things that shoot you around the map). There were also these things floating in the air that you could stand on. Anyway, one of these things ended at a wall, and it's slopes into the wall. There are also, strangely, spikes in this very small gap between the slope and wall. Anyway, I jump into it, then zoom off at the speed of light in some random direction. When I landed, my jumps were double height, and hang time was very small. So I was jumping up, then going back down very quickly.

Hard to explain, but it was funky.

Then there the many times in games where I've managed to fall into the great white abyss (outside the map) by doing something near a wall, or whatever.

I remember turning on Diddy Kong Racing for the N64, When I was playing a stage, it crashed, and then I saw a bunch of white numbers on a black background, It made me get scared and I turned it off ASAP, but nowadays I wish I hadn't.

One time in Donkey Kong Country 2, in the 4th world, my game glitched somehow and every level had Diddy's head (whether it was a bonus level or a school or whatever) and they all sent me to a fogless version of Web Woods that didn't have the half way door, which I found out years later is level 00. Interesting.

I was walking around and it said use the oraphram(sp). So I did... and the screen filled up with teleport panels and the game crashed. I wish I had a picture of it, what I remember of it, it was kinda freaky.

Same circumstances as what Xk did in MM2, except you have to run to the medal... Meaning, even if you get killed after killing the robot master, you lose.

A few months back I was playing Megaman 1 for the first time on the Megaman Anniversary for GCN and got rather far and all the way to the end! Of course, I was using the pause trick with the electricity ^^

Unfortunately, doing this caused me and the boss to die at the same time and led me to restart right before the boss with this screen...

So yeah. It wouldn't let me move and there was no sound playing. It only really upset me because I had to restart from the beginning of Wily's Castle Stage 1 (Thank god for the saving the GCN version has). That game is too hard for having glitches like that!

One of the strangest glitches I encountered was when I was playing Twilight Princess. I was fighting the first part of the boss of the Arbiter's Grounds. Y'know, the part when you ram the Spinner into his spinal cord? Anyway, I made the second hit and bounced away and the game jumped into the "hit" cutscene. However, during the cutscene, Link hit one of the skeletons he summons to prevent you from reaching him and bounced back through the spinal cord again. The game registered a hit even though it was in cutscene. When the cutscene ended, Link was standing at the beginning of the second half but the boss was still in phase one! I could even look above me and see him up there.

Needless to say I couldn't continue but that it was very interesting to see how the boss fight works.

The strangest glitch I've encountered without trying for it was the infinite rise glitch in Pokémon Puzzle League. Every once in a while, the game won't end when one player loses in a 2P match, and the stacks will both rise infinitely, all the while making combo noises and not allowing any switches. It's a pain when it does happen though, as you have to restart the current match.

That happened to me with Paper mario; I jumped through a door in bowser's castle (lava still on), and when I entered the next room and got burned, said screen popped up!

I'd once spent 2 or more calendar years lost in this one room of Final Fantasy VII, then finally get through it. No problem there. But soon after completing the ice climb and snowboarding mini-games, my save file gets ruined. Luckily no other data on that memory card was affected!

The opposite happened once too. Where I'm like "WTF" when a glitch I expect to happen doesn't. It turns out literally ZERO wild Pokemon encounters will occur on either the Cinnabar or Seafoam coastlines in a legit Japanese Green version cart. So no Missingno or item duplication there.

Interesting. I wonder why that changed with the translation then?

I found a minor amusing glitch in Red/Blue. In the last dungeon there's a place where you walk onto a ladder and when you come into the next room you're surrounded by rocks in all directions except East. You can walk South onto the rock, for some reason. You can only move one tile, though, and you don't get stuck; you can just go back up to the ladder.

There were also those "WTF" moments playing with the Missingno glitch and finding myself up against wild Prof Oaks and Blaines with glitched Pokémon. Followed by a "WTF!!!" moment when one of them used a glitched move that erased the save file. >:[

Oh yes, and I don't know how, but I managed to get Mario stuck in a wall in Mario 64. In the castle lobby, right above the door to the next floor, some polygons form a ~45° angle. I jumped toward that and he got stuck in it, just his legs sticking out dangling. I had to reset, there was no way to get him out.

Also in Super Mario Kart, I found if you cut wide around the finish line in Koopa Beach 1, it won't register crossing it and you'll lose a lap. Mario Kart 64 has a similar glitch in Koopa Troopa Beach (surprise?) where if you're way off to the right as you approach the line, it'll suddenly say you're in 8th place, but you'll still rank properly.

There was a minor glitch in Top Gear on the SNES that I found due to bad driving at the finish line. I ran into the poles right off the edge of the track where the finish line was (they were on every track, btw), and apparently just barely passed the finish line for 1st place.

But that's not all. I bounced back off, drove through the finish line (automatically since I already finished), and also got second place, and got the points from both first (20 points) and second (15 points).

Missingno isn't in the Japanese versions (except Blue?). If you encounter what would be it, the game just dies. So... count yourself lucky they changed that.

You can do that in Mario Kart 64 too, at least in VS mode. Back up across the line for your last lap to get first place. When the AI takes over they'll drive forward, turn around, cross the line again, and you get two first-place scores. I never tried it in GP mode.

Speaking of which, you can learn fun things by looking at games' code that you never would find normally. For example, if you do a fuckton of laps backward, you'll eventually finish, and in Kalimari Desert, the AI path is screwed up near the beginning of the track (but still works ). You can see that with a debug code too, you start at point 2 instead of 1, and then it goes 2, 1, 2, 3...
