Gas prices are the only reason I'm not looking forward to getting my car out of storage. And my car takes premium, too.

Count yourselves lucky.

Even after the exchange rates, people in England pay DOUBLE what you pay.

That's because England taxes the shit out of gas. Also, England has awesome public transportation and the average commute is miniscule compared to Americans'. So, no dice.

Well that applies to pretty much any country that's not called "America", because they know how a transportation network actually works.

Yep... Eastern Massachusetts is one of the areas of the country that has "good" public transit, but any time I use it I am quickly reminded of its shortcomings...

As for gas prices, since I still don't drive very often, so gas prices aren't a major concern for me... when I do drive, I usually use my mother's car, which is a four-cylinder midsize and gets pretty good mileage.

Of the three public transit systems I've used (Philly, NYC, DC), the DC metropolitan area has by far the best. It's reliable, clean, the trains are new, the stations are clean and not full of graffiti, and they have smart cards.

The only thing that I don't like about public transportation is that you can run into a lot of baddies there...

Also, lots of violence stirs on buses and transit lines.

What I remember of the DC system the one time I've ridden it is that it had this look of being built to look futuristic, but then got old, and so that weird feeling to it.

The only public transit systems I've been on are Boston's, DC's, and London's... out of those my favorite would probably be London's, the subway system covers a wide range (though it could be better signed) and the bus system was extrordinarily well-run. (Admittedly, this is in comparison to the MBTA)

I've only been to a few large cities, and I'd say Boston probably had the best public transport out of all of them. I have been to DC, but it was over a decade ago and I don't remember it that much.

It's no surprise that the gas prices where I live are only about $3.70.
That's not too bad for me, as I rarely have to drive. But if it is between public transportation and using my own car, nine times out of ten, I'll be in my own car going where I must go. Needless to say, I hate public transportation.
Who knows what's in there? If I get SARS from some dude from Russia's prison system who's fault is it? I can't blame him or anyone else at that point, except for myself Paranoia to a little extent is okay in that case.
Raised gas prices are not too much of a concern to me if I know that by paying this extra money, new jobs are being created for others less fortunate. This is just how I feel about how the gas prices are effecting me. Others may have different opinions based on their income, but I don't have any problems at this point... if the prices go $6-$7, then I might start to get a bit worried

There was something interesting a few weeks ago. A gas station happened to be very low on gas, but instead of just closing, they raised the prices to $53.95 in the hopes that nobody would refuel their car at this price. Guess what, two people were stupid enough to do exactly that.

*facepalm*

Sorry to say though, I kind of doubt that story... if you have a news article that you could link to that would be great (I'm quite curious to know whether that story is true).

At least to me, Liliana's story is more believable then the idea one might contract SARS from a Russian ex-convict due to taking public transportation...

I've never had a very bad experience on mass transit. I've dealt with a few weirdos (especially if I'm forced to take the bus at night), but usually it's pretty uneventful. Sure beats walking 3-4 miles or spending a 5-digit number of dollars on a car.

Lol, it's actually quite possible... just not very probable.

I just would need the link if I wanted to show it to my friends if I tell them the story

Happy now?

Liliana: Ich bin recht zufrieden

Although it was only about $14.26 dollars per gallon, that was quite expensive. Good for them they get their money back, $300 and $150 for only 20 and 10 liters (respectively), is quite an amount .
